Samsung Quietly Announces SmartThings Tracker With LTE Connectivity

Samsung has listed a new SmartThings product on its website. It’s a SmartThings Tracker that does have LTE connectivity. It’s up for pre-order now and will cost $99.99. Samsung expects to begin shipping it next week. Take that with a grain of salt, as this could get delayed depending on how many people actually pre-order.

This tracker from Samsung is similar to the Tile trackers that everyone loves. It allows users to track whatever the tracker is attached to, through the SmartThings app. So you could attach it to your kids bookbag or even their keys and know where they are all the time. Now unlike the Tile, this uses LTE instead of Bluetooth. The advantage there is that it doesn’t need to be within 100 feet to be able to connect to your phone. It just needs to be able to connect to AT&T’s network and tell the app where it is. Samsung is including a year of AT&T’s LTE service for free with this tracker as well. Afterwards, it’ll cost you $5 per month, or you can get a year of service for just $50. There is a button on the tracker, which a child could press when they are ready to be picked up from school, soccer practice or something else. It will send a notification to your phone, with a location so you know where to pick them up from. There is also geofencing support here, so you can keep tabs on when kids or pets, go outside of the zone you’ve set up for them.

Speaking of zones, SmartThings also allows you to create a zone that could turn on specific things when the tracker is close to home. For example, it could unlock your front-door when you get within 500 feet of your home, or turn on the lights and so forth. That’s the beauty of this being part of the SmartThings ecosystem, and not just a regular tracker. Finally, the SmartThings Tracker is water-resistant and the battery can last up to 10 days on a single charge. You can pre-order the SmartThings Tracker from Samsung using the link down below.
