United States’ Big Four carries, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have announced a Mobile Authentication Taskforce at MWCA, and as a result of that, Project Verify got announced as well. Now, the newly-formed taskforce is focused on the “future of mobile authentication”, and it seems like Project Verify is the very first, but a large step forward, at least all four carriers think so. So, what is Project Verify? Well, it’s an app that is supposed to replace your regular password with a “more secure, device-based, multi-factor authentication”.
Project Verify will use your phone number, IP address, SIM card details, phone account type, and account tenure, and it will log you into websites without the need for you to type in your username or password. While logging into a service via a website or an app, you will see a ‘Project Verify’ logo below the field where you’d usually type in your username and password, and clicking that logo will do the job for you. Now, a second-factor authentication is also a part o the package it seems, as you will be able to receive a code by text or e-mail, all through Project Verify. Inside the Project Verify application, you will be able to see all the services that are connected to the app, and manage them as well.
That being said, the Project Verify app seems to be rather simple to use, and the UI also seems to be spot on. We were unable to use this app, as it is not available just yet, but it will be in the near future it seems.
