According to a new rumor that surfaced online, the larger variant of the Galaxy S10 will feature a large 4000mAh battery, as well as a 93.4% screen-to-body ratio. Reports are also indicating that Samsung is playing around with prototype units sans the headphone jack, although the end result could go wither way, but it’s worth noting that Samsung is one of the last few smartphone manufacturers out there which release flagships with 3.5mm ports.
So far rumors have pointed to three Galaxy S10 models with two smaller 5.8-inch displays and a larger 6.44-inch display. One of the smaller models is being targeted as a “budget” Galaxy S10 that could come with a 64GB storage option and feature a flat screen as opposed to the curve that Samsung has stuck to on its flagship models for the past few years. Samsung is reportedly working to include in-display fingerprint sensor technology into next year’s flagships, and possibly under-the-display technology for the camera and other sensors that would regularly find their home on the top bezel. This would fall in line with rumors of the high screen-to-body ratio, as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 had to move the camera and sensors to the rear sliding mechanism as there was no room on the front of the device to house them. Samsung is unlikely to take such a dramatic approach, so it’s possible that the Galaxy S10 models will bring this new display technology.
If Samsung is indeed looking to remove the headphone jack, it could possibly do so in order to make room for not only the new display technology, but the larger 4000mAh battery. It would be a curious move nonetheless, given Samsung’s criticisms of Apple’s decision to remove the headphone jack, and consumers may not take the decision lightly given that the company is one of the few major smartphone manufacturers who has yet to give up the port in any shape or form. Still, we’re only talking prototypes here and some do include the headphone jack, so Samsung may still be able to figure out a way to keep it without any other compromises.
