The Honor 8X was announced last month in China, and the company has now announced this phone on a global scale, as expected. The Honor 8X is a mid-range smartphone, and is a direct successor to the Honor 7X, a handset which was announced back in December last year. The Honor 8X does bring an updated design to the table, noticeably thinner bezels, and a display notch, whether you like it or not, but at least it’s not huge. Having said that, the Honor 8X, unlike its predecessor, comes with a glass body, while the Honor 7X was a metal unibody handset. That being said, let’s talk more about the phone’s design and specs, shall we.
The Honor 8X sports a similar glass back to the Honor 8 and 9, actually, as there are a number of glass panels included on top of the other to create that interesting reflection. The Honor 8X actually picks up on the body shape of the Honor 8, more or less, as its back side is not as curved as it was on the Honor 9, and thus the phone may be a bit less slippery than the Honor 9, despite the fact it comes with a glass back. The Honor 8X’s display sports rounded corners, while you will notice that its display notch is not all that large, though it’s not as small as ‘waterdrop’ notches either. The Honor 8X sports all of its buttons on the right, while its SIM card tray is accessible from the left. The device sports two cameras on the back, those two cameras are vertically-aligned, and an LED flash is located below them. A fingerprint scanner sits on the back of the device as well, as does the company’s branding.
Now, in terms of specs, the Honor 8X sports a huge FullView display, it comes with a 6.5-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) IPS LCD panel (91% screen-to-body ratio). The device is fueled by the Kirin 710 64-bit octa-core processor, while it also includes 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of expandable native storage. The device comes with a 3,750mAh battery on the inside, and that battery is not removable. 20-megapixel (f/1.8 aperture, PDAF) and 2-megapixel (depth sensor) cameras are included on the back of the phone, while a single 16-megapixel camera (f/20 aperture) sits on the phone’s front side. Android 8.1 Oreo comes pre-installed on the Honor 8X, with Huawei’s Emotion UI 8.2 skin, while the device also offers two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM, second SIM card slot can be used to expand storage using a microSD card). A 3.5mm headphone jack is included on the device, and Bluetooth 4.2 is also a part of the package. It is worth noting that the Honor 8X comes with a regular micro USB (2.0), not a Type-C port. The Honor 8X measures 160.4 x 76.6 x 7.8mm, while it weighs 175 grams.
Honor did not share the availability details of the device just yet, but we know for a fact that the phone will become available in Europe soon, maybe even later today, while it will make its way to the US as well, a bit later though. The official price tag hasn’t been confirmed either, at least not yet, but the phone will probably cost less than $250 / €250 for the base 3GB RAM model, maybe even less than $200 / €200 (the Honor 7X was price at $199 in the US, its base model). In any case, we will update this article as soon as Honor releases more info, which will probably happen in the next couple of hours, so stay tuned.
UPDATE: Honor Germany says that the phone will become available on October 5, while Honor UK claims it will go on sale on October 10. If we had to guess, we’d say that other European Honor domains will get it on October 5 as well, while Honor UK is a bit behind. The device will probably be late to the US, though, we don’t have any info as of yet, while the phone’s price tag has not been confirmed just yet either.
