In short: What’s expected to be the ‘Pixel Slate’ has leaked once again with a new image coming through from routine tipster, Evan Blass. The image provides another good look at the Pixel Slate, as well as a more detailed look at the way in which it will connect to the keyboard, compared to previous leaks that have focused more on the tablet-like design of the Chrome OS-powered device.
Background: Google is expected to announce the Pixel Slate during an event tomorrow along with a number of other Google-branded hardware products, such as the Pixel 3 and 3 XL smartphones. However, the Pixel Slate has been gaining considerable attention as it’s expected this will effectively arrive as a tablet with an optional keyboard that can be connected to the Pixel Slate for use in more of a tradition Chromebook manner. This device has leaked considerably in recent weeks, with a detailed look coming through over the weekend. However, those previous leaks have often showed the Pixel Slate detached from the keyboard, or shown the device attached but from an angle which does not fully showcase the design. As this latest render highlights more of a folded design which likely adds additional support to the tablet aspect when the two are attached.
Impact: This latest render does not provide anything too new in terms of revelations due to the sheer number of leaks that have come through, but the newly folding view does provide a fuller picture of what buyers of the new Pixel-branded Chromebook can expect. Of course, the keyboard itself is somewhat optional and there has been rumors more than one keyboard will be available for the device, so buyers will likely be able to buy the type and style of keyboard that best suits their needs. Another point to note is the latest render also provides an additional look at the software in use. As while the images that leaked over the weekend provided the same main view of the software, they were off the app launcher view, compared to this one which showcases the home screen. Again, nothing too major, but something to focus on before the big unveil.
