The Samsung W2019 smart flip phone has just surfaced yet again, both in images and a hands-on video, looking rather similar to the company’s W2018. This device seems to be having two displays, one on the outside, and another one on the inside. Unfortunately, we only get to see the phone’s inner display in these materials, as its outer display seems to be powered off here. If you take a closer look at the area below the phone’s outer display, you will notice that there are three navigation buttons included down there. Bezels around the device’s outer display are rather thick, while the phone is quite thick on its own, though exact specifications were not shared by the source. Samsung’s logo is included above the device’s display, and also on the back of this smartphone.
There seems to be a fingerprint scanner included on the right-hand side of this phone, though we cannot confirm that just yet. The volume up and down buttons are located on the left, while a separate physical key sits below them, that is probably the company’s dedicated Bixby button. There are two cameras included on the back of the device, and they are horizontally-aligned. An LED flash lays next to those two cameras, while the device seems to be made out of metal and glass. The device’s physical keys on the inside are exactly what you’d expect, regular numpad is available, and you can use this keyboard like any other keyboard on phones before smartphones became a thing. Back, home, and overview keys are included on the inside as well, in form of physical keys, while an additional key is placed above the phone’s keypad as well. That circle that you can see on the inside can be used for navigation as well, in order to scroll through a list of apps, menus, or perhaps moving the typing indicator while you’re writing a message. The provided hands-on video is quite short, but it will give you a good idea as to what this phone will look like, same as the provided images.
Background: Samsung has been manufacturing smart flip phones for a while now, as they’re still relatively popular in South Korea and China. Last year, the company introduced the Samsung W2018, and this year, naturally, we’re getting the W2019 which appears to be extremely similar to its predecessor design-wise. In terms of specs, we do not have all that much info, but the phone’s display size and resolution had leaked recently, same goes for its battery size. The Samsung W2019 is expected to sport a 4.2-inch fullHD display, while a 3,000mAh battery will be included on the inside of the device. The phone is expected to measure 132.9 x 63.2 x 17.3mm, if the leaked info is to be believed. The Samsung W2018 was fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC, so this model will probably ship with the best SoC Qualcomm has to offer, the Snapdragon 845.
Impact: Smart flip phones are made for a rather limited consumer base, but Samsung is still selling quite a few of them, which is why the company opts to release a new one each year. This phone will be quite powerful, as was its predecessor, though its availability will be quite limited, so keep that in mind. The device will ship with either Android 8.1 Oreo or Android 9 Pie, while its UI will be somewhat different than what you’re used to seeing on Samsung phones lately, due to the fact this phone’s displays are considerably smaller than what you’re used to.
