The Galaxy A8s is Samsung’s upcoming smartphone which will have a display camera hole, and the phone’s specifications have just surfaced online. According to the source, the Galaxy A8s will sport a 6.39-inch Infinity-O display, and that display will offer a fullHD+ resolution. Now, if the source is to be believed, this will not be an OLED panel, though, the display is actually rumored to be manufactured by BOE, and it will be an LCD panel. That is quite odd considering that Samsung has been including OLED displays in all of its mid-range and high-end smartphones for a long time now, even its entry-level phones are shipping with OLED panels at this point in time. In any case, the phone is also said to sport a 3,400mAh battery, which will not be removable, and a Type-C port on the bottom. The Snapdragon 710 64-bit octa-core processor will fuel the device, and that is the most powerful mid-range processor that Qualcomm has to offer at the moment.
The Galaxy A8s will include 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while you can expect to see three cameras on the back of this smartphone. The device will, allegedly, ship with 24, 5, and 10-megapixel cameras on its back, though exact camera specs are still unknown, even though it’s expected to sport a similar setup as the Galaxy A7. A 24-megapixel camera is said to be included on the front side of the device, while the camera hole in the display will measure 6.7mm in diameter. The device itself is said to measure 159.11 x 74.8 x 7.38mm, while at least some of its variants will include gradient colors on the back.
Background: Samsung first teased the Galaxy A8s’ arrival during its press conference, when the company basically hinted that the device will include a display camera hole. The Galaxy A8s is expected to be made out of metal and glass, and its design already leaked, though that render was made based on rumors. In any case, if rumors are to be believed, the Galaxy A8s will include three vertically-aligned cameras on the back, below which you’ll get an LED flash. A rear-facing fingerprint scanner will also be included in the package, while the phone will also include an extremely thin “chin” below the display. A display camera hole will be placed in the upper-left corner of the phone’s display, while the device’s display will sport rounded corners. All the physical keys are expected to be included on the right-hand side of the Galaxy A8s.
Impact: The Galaxy A8s will most probably become the very first Samsung-branded smartphone to sport a display camera hole, and quite possibly the very first smartphone to sport such a setup in general, unless some other company trumps Samsung in the meantime, Huawei, for example. It is still unknown as to when exactly will this phone become a reality, but the Galaxy A8s is expected to become official before the end of the year, though it will arrive in December, most probably. The company is expected to announce its launch date in the near future, so stay tuned for that.
