A new Nokia 9 PureView case has just surfaced, following a leak of a see-through silicone case that appeared a couple of weeks ago. This newly-leaked case seems to be made out of silicone as well, though this time around we get to see an all-black case for the device, and this case seems to reconfirm the Nokia 9 PureView’s design. The moment you lay your eyes on the provided image, you will notice that there are seven cutouts included on the back, and those seven cutouts are there to accommodate “rings” that will be implemented on the back of the device, at least according to renders that have leaked in the past. You will notice that the top cutout actually has an attachment on the top, and that tiny cutout is there for a noise-canceling microphone. In any case, five out of seven of these cutouts are here to accommodate the Nokia 9 PureView’s camera, the sixth is there for an LED flash, while the seventh is there for some sort of a dual sensor which will be implemented on the back of the Nokia 9 PureView.
This case also suggests that the phone’s physical keys will be included on the right-hand side of the device, which is something the leaked renders reported as well, as this case fits those renders perfectly, it seems. A Type-C USB port is included on the bottom of the Nokia 9 PureView, while you will notice a cutout for the phone’s loudspeaker on one side of the cutout for the Type-C port, and a cutout for an earpiece is on the other side. This case suggests that the phone will be slightly curved on the back, which is something that leaked renders also revealed a couple of weeks ago. Those are pretty much all the details that this case revealed / reconfirmed, as only one image leaked, we don’t really get to see this case from the front or left side, unfortunately.
Background: The Nokia 9 PureView rumors and leaks have been surfacing for quite some time now. The phone was expected to arrive back in September, a year after the Nokia 8 arrived, but that did not happen. Reports suggested that the device got delayed on Juho Sarvikas initiative, Mr. Sarvikas is a Chief Product Officer over at HMD Global, in case you didn’t know. Reports said that Mr. Sarvikas did not think that the Nokia 9 (which was its rumored name back then) is not ready to hit the market and compete with other flagships, which managed to upset some employees over at HMD Global, at least if reports are to be believed. HMD Global’s employees actually thought that Nokia is missing its chance to create some additional competition in the market, and make a name for itself in the premium department. In any case, not long after that, HMD Global acquired rights to use the PureView brand, and along with that, PureView technology, of course. Those rights were acquired from Microsoft, and immediately after that, rumors started popping up that the company will implement PureView technology in the Nokia 9, while the “Nokia 9 PureView” name also surfaced along with it, and the phone has been referred to as the Nokia 9 PureView ever since.
Implementing PureView technology takes time, of course, so it remains to be seen if the Nokia 9 will actually ship with PureView tech, or will all of these remain a rumor, but in any case, if the Nokia 9 doesn’t end up sporting PureView technology, the company’s next flagship most certainly will, though, truth be said, the phone has been postponed so many times thus far, that pretty much everyone is expecting PureView tech to be included. Some rumors actually suggested that the Nokia 9 PureView will be announced at the December 5 event in Dubai, which HMD Global recently announced, as the company teased three phones for that event, but if a recent rumor is to be believed, that will not happen. That rumor suggested that the phone will launch either later in December, or in early 2019, which does seem like a more likely option, as HMD Global probably wants all the attention to be pointed at the Nokia 9 PureView during the launch event, so it’s highly unlikely the company will announce it alongside two other phones. Depending on which rumor you opt to believe, the Nokia 9 PureView may arrive in late December, or early 2019, which could mean either January, February, or March, who knows. The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to ship with at least 6GB of RAM on the inside, though an 8GB RAM variant is also a possibility, while the device will almost certainly ship with Android 9 Pie, and will be a part of Google’s Android One project. The device will include a rather large display, and it will sport some bezel above and below the display, though those bezels will not be thick at all. The device is also expected to include an in-display fingerprint scanner, and some sort of a facial scanning technology, though facial scanning in the Nokia 9 PureView will probably utilize the phone’s front-facing camera, it will not come with fancy sensors as in some other phones, though that was to be expected, as that won’t be the main focus of the Nokia 9 PureView, not even close to that.
Impact: Considering that the arrival of Qualcomm’s new flagship processor is right around the corner, it would be wise for HMD Global to wait for that SoC to launch and become available, so that the company can implement it in the Nokia 9 PureView, as the Snapdragon 845 will be replaced by that SoC, which will probably be called the Snapdragon 8150. Releasing a Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone at the end of December or in January may not be the best idea, as HMD Global already learned when it announced the Nokia 8 Sirocco during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last year, as that phone was announced as a new flagship, but it sported an older processor, and a rather high price tag… HMD Global did not really sell a ton of those phones as a result.
