The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are very similar, as you might well imagine – so much so that this comparison will be done a little differently than most. I will discuss both models together, and pointing out the differences in the same section. While not the most beautiful of devices, they are well-built and priced aggressively for sale – this is not to say they are ugly by any means, just that they have a more industrial look to them. OnePlus is one of the few smartphones that comes out twice a year, and as expected, the ‘T’ model is the one that should have come out in the first place. But OnePlus has turned this into a profitable way to market their smartphones, and with their pricing, is able to get away with it.
Every year OnePlus releases a new model and then later during the same year they add come out with a new smartphone by adding a ‘T’ on the end on of the previous model number. Both devices use an AMOLED display technology with a FHD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio with a notched display. Both devices us the same Snapdragon 845 processor clocked at 2.8 GHz with an Adreno 630 GPU. Even in their memory area, they both offer 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB models. The camera area on both the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are identical, even the front-facing camera. They are almost identical in physical size and weight. They both offer the usual suspects – Google Pay, HD sound, NFC, v5.0 Bluetooth, and a USB Type-C Port for charging and data transfer. Both devices use Android – Oreo 8.1 in the OnePlus 6 and Pie 9.0 in the OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6
OnePlus has always made a quality smartphone at a great price – true the prices are creeping higher, but they are still a genuine bargain when compared to other flagships. You will have a few less frills, but many users do not ever find these options on their phone. They do use the better AMOLED technology for their displays, but they have a notch and only use a FHD+ resolution. You will get an ample amount of RAM, but you will not find any expandable memory. You will always get a good camera area with improved software. OnePlus will not give us an IP68 certifications and, for some strange reason, will not include wireless charging. While the OnePlus 6 uses the traditional rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, the OnePlus 6T uses an on-screen fingerprint recognition.
The displays on the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are only have an FHD+ resolution – the OnePlus 6 has a 6.28-inch display and the OnePlus 6T ups the ante to 6.41-inches. The resolution of the OP6 is 2280 x 1080 pixels and the OP6T uses a 2340 x 1080 resolution and both end up having 402 pixels-per-inch (PPI). Both displays use the newer aspect ratio of 19:9 (19.5:9 in the OnePlus 6T) to give them a taller and narrower display. This may sound like a bad thing, but the new ratio allows for better viewing of media or playing games. You also get better multitasking with the new ratio and you will get better protection as Gorilla Glass jumped from 5 to the newest Gorilla Glass 6. Both displays include a notch, although the notch on the OnePlus 6T is much smaller as you can see from the pictures.
Both the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T get the same Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at 2.8 GHz and the powerful Adreno 630 for the best graphics you can throw at it, be it movies, videos, or gaming. Both models have a base of 6GB of RAM, but the OP6 only has a base of 64GB of non-expandable memory, then there is a model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of memory or 256GB of memory. The OnePlus 6T starts out with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of memory as standard, but also has a model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of memory – no memory is expandable. Power to the OP6 is via a 3,300 mAh non-removable battery and the OP6T has a slightly larger 3,700 mAh capacity battery. When you do need a charge, OnePlus has their own quick Dash Charge – there is no wireless charging.
OnePlus 6T
The majority of are manufacturers are going with dual cameras on their flagships and OnePlus jumped on that bandwagon. Just like most things on the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, they not only each have dual cameras, they have the exact same sensors. The primary camera is the largest coming in with a 20-megapixel sensor, an aperture of f/1.7, as well as both EIS and OIS to enhance stabilization. The other camera is a large 16-megapixel the same f/1.7 aperture. PDAF and a dual LED flash work for both cameras. The FFC is quite large, checking in at 16-megapixels, stabilized using OIS and comes equipped with Auto HDR. One nice improvement on the OnePlus 6T is the ability to use the new Alert Slider to zoom in and zoom out when you open the camera app. There is also improvements to the camera software that could be organized better, but adds much to the photo experience.
If you want a great device for a reasonable price then the OnePlus 6T is for you. The build quality is outstanding; you get a beautiful AMOLED display, the same processor used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, dual cameras that take great pictures, and a large FFC for excellent selfies. It comes with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of memory, Android 9.0 Pie, and their very light OxygenOS that mostly uses pure vanilla 9.0 Pie with just a few tweaks so it runs smooth and fast. The OnePlus 6 measures 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.8 mm and weighs in at 177 grams. It comes in Midnight Black, Mirror Black, or Silk White. It will cost you $529 for the 6GB/64GB version and $550 for the 8GB/128GB version. The OnePlus 6T measures 157.5 x 74.8 x 8.2 mm and weighs in at 185 grams. It comes in Midnight Black and Mirror Black, although many are hoping that the Silk White will show up soon. It will cost you $580 for the 6GB/128GB version.

The Final Word
After the dust of similarity settles, the OnePlus 6T is the better of these two devices. It has a slightly larger display, the on-screen fingerprint reader, Gorilla Glass 6 protects the front and the back of the OnePlus 6T, more possible memory (256GB), a larger battery, and Android 9.0 Pie.
The OnePlus 6 does have a 3.5mm headphone jack that the OnePlus 6T sorely lacks, so if you cannot live without a headphone jack, purchase the OP6 – you will be happy with it, but for the price, the OnePlus 6T is a better buy and the winner of this comparison.
