OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple Variant Shown In Leaked Images

The OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple variant seems to be on the way, as the phone’s seemingly official images have just surfaced online. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you will be able to see four images that have surfaced, and every single one of them will give you a rather good look at the alleged ‘Thunder Purple’ variant of the OnePlus 6T. This phone, based on what we’ve seen thus far and what we can see here, will sport the same exact build as the other two variants of the OnePlus 6T, as expected, but its back glass will sport a purple color. These renders actually suggest that the upper portion of the phone’s backside will be darker than the rest of its back, dark gray or black even, and it will be interesting to see if that will actually be the case, or is the light hitting the phone in a rather odd way in these renders. As you can see, the same reflection that reveals a letter ‘S’ will be included on the back of the phone, which is the case with most other OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T variants, actually.

Based on these leaks, the back side of the phone will sport this new color, but even though light plays a huge role in these renders, and prevents them from revealing the whole picture, it seems like the sides will also be purple-colored. That will probably be the case, as the Red variant of the OnePlus 6 was made the same way. The phone’s buttons on the sides will also be the same color. Other than those color differences, the phone will be completely identical to the other OnePlus 6T variants in terms of the design, and as far as specs are concerned, the source did not reveal any info, but the phone will almost certainly be available with 8GB of RAM only, a 6GB RAM model will probably not be available in any market. In terms of storage, well, we’re not sure, but it will probably be either 128GB or 256GB.

Background: The OnePlus 6 Thunder Purple variant was spotted on Amazon Germany quite recently, though the listing was taken down quickly after that. The phone was available for pre-order while it was listed, and the variant that was listed had the same price as the OnePlus 6T Midnight Black variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That’s not all, though, the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple variant also appeared on OnePlus’ official support page, which is also a strong indication that the company plans to release the device. Until today, pretty much everyone thought that the Thunder Purple variant will look the same as a purple-colored OnePlus 6 prototype that appeared on Mrwhosetheboss’ YouTube channel quite recently. That YouTuber visited OnePlus in Shenzhen, and before the OnePlus 6T got announced, he shared his video in which he revealed a number of OnePlus 6 prototypes, one of which was purple-colored. People automatically assumed that it might be the rumored Thunder Purple variant, but it seems like it’s not, renders that surfaced today actually show off a considerably different device. The OnePlus 6 prototype that surfaced did not have the same reflection as the phone that just leaked nor a number of other OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T models, and the purple color on the back of the upcoming device will look significantly different than on the device that appeared on YouTuber’s channel, as that phone sported more black color on the back than purple.

The OnePlus 6T was announced last week, and the device is exactly what we’ve expected based on a ton of rumors and leaks. The OnePlus 6T looks better than the OnePlus 6, arguably, as it sports a considerably smaller notch on the front, the so-called ‘teardrop’ notch. The device has the same processor as the OnePlus 6, the Snapdragon 845, while the same can be said for the device’s RAM and camera setups as well, as those are also identical. The OnePlus 6 actually already received all the camera and most software features that the OnePlus 6T got announced with, via OxygenOS 9.0.2 update that started rolling out a couple of days ago. The OnePlus 6T features a 6.39-inch fullHD+ Optic AMOLED display, and the phone is slightly narrower, and a bit taller than the OnePlus 6, while it’s also a bit thicker. The OnePlus 6T has a larger battery than its predecessor, a 3,700mAh unit compared to a 3,300mAh one that is included in the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6T has an in-display fingerprint scanner, and optical one, instead of a capacitive rear-facing fingerprint scanner that is included on the back of the OnePlus 6. That makes the back of the OnePlus 6T look cleaner, for sure, but based on initial impressions, the OnePlus 6’s rear-facing capacitive unit seems to be more convenient to use, not to mention faster as well, even though the OnePlus 6T’s implementation seems to be solid, and quite futuristic, for a lack of better word.

Impact: It seems like the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple variant will be announced instead of a Red variant of the phone, though it is still possible that OnePlus may opt to launch both. The company has a tendency of launching one new additional color (post-launch) for its flagship smartphone, and one or more special edition variants of the device whose availability is usually tied to some regions only. We cannot confirm anything at this point, but the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple variant does seem like a real possibility following several leaks that we’ve seen thus far, not only from third-party sources, but also from the company’s very own website. It is still unclear when this smartphone may arrive, but one thing is for sure, if it launches, it will give consumers a nice-looking alternative to the other two variants of the phone which are both black (Mirror Black and Midnight Black), as the company opted to announce only two variants of the phone this time around, while the OnePlus 6 was available in Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Slik White options from the get-go.
