Galaxy A50 To Feature Large 4,000mAh Battery, 24MP Selfie Camera: Leak

A new leak supplies more information about the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A50. Recent reports claim that a 4,000mAh battery will power the Galaxy A50. In comparison, this device offers the same battery capacity as the Galaxy Note 9, and it is larger than the batteries included with the Galaxy A8 (2018), which has a 3,000mAh battery, and the recently-launched Galaxy A9, which has a 3,800mAh battery. The Galaxy A50 will also feature a 24-megapixel front-facing camera according to recent rumors, although the report notes that the device could potentially feature more than one selfie shooter. It is also not clear if a notch or a display hole will host the front-facing camera of the smartphone.

Background: The Galaxy A series is among the four handset lineups that will survive Samsung’s efforts to merge its smartphone offerings. Aside from the Galaxy A lineup, the other device series that Samsung will keep include the Galaxy M, Galaxy S, and Galaxy Note series. The Galaxy A lineup includes the mid-range device offerings of the South Korean tech giant, and among the handsets that Samsung will launch under this series include the Galaxy A10, A30, A50, A70, and A90.

Several leaks and benchmark results already provided details about the design and specifications of the Galaxy A50. According to a recent benchmark result, the Galaxy A50 will feature the Exynos 9610 chipset. This SoC features a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, four ARM Cortex A73 CPU cores running at a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz, and four Cortex A53 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.7GHz. This chipset is fabricated using the 10nm FinFET process node technology. Furthermore, recent rumors claim that the handset will include 4GB of RAM, and the device will be available in two hardware variants that have either 64GB or 128GB of internal flash storage. The handset will likely sport an in-display fingerprint sensor, although it will possibly feature an optical sensor rather than the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that Samsung will reportedly include with the Galaxy S10 lineup. According to recent rumors, the Galaxy A50 will be available in five color options, which include blue, black, pink, silver, and white.

Earlier reports also mention that the Galaxy A50 will ship with Android 9 Pie pre-installed, although Samsung’s proprietary skin, known as One UI, will likely run on top of Google’s operating system. The latest version of Samsung’s software overlay features a system-wide dark mode and a redesigned user interface that makes it easier for consumers to take advantage of the large screens of smartphones.

Impact: The Galaxy A50 will likely offer excellent battery life, given the large battery capacity and the power-efficient nature of the Exynos 9610 chipset. However, users who are looking for devices with the longest battery life may have to look at another smartphone that Samsung will reportedly launch in the future, known as the Galaxy M20. Recent rumors show that this entry-level device will include a 5,000mAh battery. Nonetheless, reports say that Samsung will announce the Galaxy A50 in the first half of 2019, and more information about the device will become available as the launch date draws near.
