Rumor: Google Working On Larger Pixel 3 Lite Smartphone

Industry insider OnLeaks revealed in a Twitter post that there is another Google Pixel 3 Lite handset that is currently on development. According to the insider, the search giant is working on what seems to be a larger version of the rumored Pixel 3 Lite, and it will likely have almost the same size as the Google Pixel 3 XL. However, the insider did not state in the leak if the rumored handset will have a similarly sized display as the Pixel 3 XL nor did it provide additional information about the specifications of the upcoming device. Furthermore, OnLeaks stated in another tweet that the information originated from a source that he had little experience working with, and he will continue getting more information about the rumored smartphone.

Background: Recent leaks already provided details regarding the design of the Pixel 3 Lite, and it is expected that the larger version of the handset will have a similar appearance. One of the key differences between the Pixel 3 Lite and the Pixel 3 handsets is the lack of a front-facing speaker at the bottom of the display. Meanwhile, based on the leaks that emerged last month, users will likely gain a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack located at the top edge of the smartphone in place of the speaker. Furthermore, the Pixel 3 Lite only sports a single front-facing camera, compared to the dual front shooters found in the Pixel 3, and the rumored handset will likely be made from plastic. The leaks already showed one color option for the device, which is white, although it is likely that the search giant may introduce more variants for the device at its launch.

The leaks also provided details about the specifications of the Pixel 3 Lite, and the larger version of the device will likely have the same hardware features. According to recent rumors, the Pixel 3 Lite will likely sport the Snapdragon 670 chipset. This SoC includes two high-powered CPU cores running at 2.0GHz, six lower-powered CPU cores clocked at up to 1.7GHz, and the Adreno 615 GPU. Recent reports also indicate that the handset will include 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal flash storage. The Pixel 3 Lite will also have a display with a resolution of 2,220 by 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9, which is relatively taller than the aspect ratio of the display used in the Pixel 3. The single front-facing camera will likely have an 8-megapixel sensor, while the rear camera will reportedly include a 12-megapixel imaging module and a dual-tone LED flash. The smartphone also contains a 2,915mAh battery, and it also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology.

Impact: While OnLeaks did not provide additional information about the rumored larger version of the Pixel 3 Lite, it will likely be cheaper than the flagship smartphone offerings of the search giant. The Pixel 3 Lite, which will likely be the first Pixel smartphone that will cater to the mid-range market, will reportedly ship with a price tag of between $400 and $500, although it is likely that the larger handset will cost more. The Pixel 3 Lite will reportedly launch next year, and it also signals that Google intends to make the Pixel line more mainstream by attracting budget-conscious customers.
