If you’ve been wondering what hides inside the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, well, you’re in the right place, as the phone has been torn down recently, and the teardown has been published on the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel. This teardown video has a duration of about six minutes, and it will give you a good idea as to what lies on the inside of the phone, while it will also serve as a good guideline for fixing up the device, if needed. The first thing you’ll need to do in order to remove the phone’s back panel is heat up the device’s back, quite a bit, actually. Using a heat gun is the best idea, as you’ll need to heat it up a lot in order to get a piece of metal or something else that is thin enough, and strong enough) between the phone’s back side and metal frame. You will also need several pry tools, and a suction cup in order to complete the procedure. Getting the Mate 20 Pro’s back panel to separate from the metal frame was a bit more difficult than Jerry expected, it seems.
Once you open up the device, you will notice that the device supports wireless charging, in case you didn’t know that, while you will also sport a metal plate which covers the phone’s cameras. There are quite a few screws that you’ll need to remove in order to remove that metal plate and the wireless charging unit, but be careful, you’ll need to detach the ribbon as well, before removing the two. There are quite a few ribbon connections you will need to detach in order to remove the motherboard from the phone’s body, and as part of it, you will remove the phone’s cameras as well. In order to access components on the bottom of the phone, and ultimately the phone’s battery, you’ll need to remove a new set of screws that are placed below the phone’s battery, though remove the SIM card tray first, which is also located on the bottom of the device. There are also some ribbons that you’ll need to remove while you’re down there. Once you remove the phone’s battery, you’ll be able to see the phone’s in-display fingerprint scanner. Jerry also puts the phone back together in the provided video, and if you’d like to check the video itself, it’s embedded down below.
Any Surprises?
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro teardown did not offer any major surprises, it seems, we got exactly what was expected. The phone seems to be fairly easy to disassemble, save for the initial part of heating up the phone’s back side, and prying the phone’s back cover off its frame. This teardown did confirm that only one of the phone’s cameras offers OIS, though that does not affect the performance of the Mate 20 Pro’s cameras at all, it seems, as we were able to find out in our camera review. This teardown also allows you to take a closer look at the phone’s IR blaster, which Huawei opted to include in this device as well. It is also worth noting that the Mate 20 Pro’s wireless charging plate also acts as a plate for wireless reverse charging, so you can technically use this phone to charge up some other phone which supports Qi charging.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro Details
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the most powerful device that the company introduced, and it is made out of metal and glass. At the beginning of the embedded video, you will notice that the phone’s back cover “sings” when you scratch on it, that’s because Huawei applied some sort of coating on the back, and a different pattern it seems, which makes the phone more grippy than other glass-made smartphones. That’s a nice touch, no matter what way you’re looking at it, as grippier is always better, as you’ll be less prone to dropping the device. The Mate 20 Pro comes with the most powerful chip Huawei had released to date, the Kirin 980, while the device features a 6.39-inch QHD+ AMOLED display. The Mate 20 Pro is water and dust resistant, while it ships with Android 9 Pie out of the box, with EMUI 9.0 on top of it. The device also includes a 4,200mAh battery, very thin bezels, and a display notch at the top.
