As things stand at the moment, the Huawei Nova 4 will become the second smartphone to be announced with a display camera hole, following the Galaxy A8s, and a bunch of info regarding the device surfaced in the last 24 hours. The freshest info comes from Huawei, actually, as the company shared an actual render of the phone via its official Weibo (Chinese social media) account, thus confirming its design, well, at least the design of its back side. The device that the company shared actually comes with a gradient color setup on the back, it goes from being red at the top, to a purple color on the bottom (rumored to be called “Honey Red” variant), and this is probably just one of many color variants that Huawei will announce later this month. The image Huawei shared reveals that the phone will feature a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and three cameras on the back, along with an LED flash. The phone’s cameras will be vertically-aligned, and will be placed in the top-left corner of the phone’s back side. Huawei’s logo will be placed in the lower-left portion of the phone’s back, while the device’s back side will be curved.
Huawei Nova 4 Specifications Point To A Mid-Range Phone
As expected, the Huawei Nova 4 will be a mid-range device, at least according to its leaked spec sheet. The “Nova” lineup of devices, in general, belongs in the mid-range category, so this move was expected, despite the fact some rumors suggested that the Nova 4 will include the Kirin 980 on the inside, but that will not happen, as it will simply water down Huawei’s brand strategy, and pull away attention from its flagships, the Mate 20 series of devices. Anyhow, the Huawei Nova 4 spec sheet did surface online, and it also appeared on Weibo, but was not shared by Huawei, but by a third-party source. The phone’s specs surfaced in form of an image, an image you can check out in the gallery down below. As you can see, the device is expected to sport a rather large display, a 6.4-inch fullHD+ (2310 x 1080) panel, while it is also expected to incorporate 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Kirin 970 64-bit octa-core processor will fuel the phone, which is Huawei’s flagship processor for last year, and it’s still quite powerful. Now, it seems like there will be two version of the phone, and the premium one will include 48, 16, and 2-megapixel cameras on its back, while the regular version will ship with 20, 16, and 2-megapixel cameras. This is quite interesting, as this is a mid-range smartphone, so probably nobody expected three cameras, let alone a 48-megapixel sensor on the back. A 25-megapixel camera will sit on the phone’s front side, while a 3,750mAh battery is also mentioned in the provided image, and it will support 18W fast charging. The device will support 4G LTE connectivity, needless to say, and VoLTE will be included as well.
Huawei Nova 4’s Competition
The Huawei Nova 4 will become the second smartphone with a display camera hole, following the Galaxy A8s, and interestingly enough, it will be a direct competitor to that smartphone. The Lenovo Z5s is expected to arrive this month as well, and it will be included in this circle as well, as all three of those devices are mid-rangers, and all three of them ship with a similar design, and a display camera hole, Unlike the Huawei Nova 4 and Galaxy A8s, however, the Lenovo Z5s will ship with a display camera hole which is centered at the top of the phone’s display, and not moved to the side, as is the case with the Huawei Nova 4 and Galaxy A8s. These three devices are expected to be somewhat close in terms of price as well, even though the Galaxy A8s will probably be the most expensive one out of the bunch. You can expect to see many more devices with a similar design to these three smartphones moving forward, in 2019, as display camera holes are definitely becoming a thing, and mid-range smartphone are made out of metal and glass these days, just like flagships, so it’s becoming more and more difficult to differentiate them based on the design alone. In addition to that, upcoming flagships will also ship with display camera holes, at least some of them, so that is not helping either. The OPPO R19 will probably sport such a design, while Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S10 flagships are also rumored to ship with display camera holes. LG is working on such devices, as is ZTE, and the same can probably be said for a number of other smartphone manufacturers, as display camera holes are slowly, but surely, becoming new display notches.
Huawei Nova 4 Will Be Available In A Number Of Markets
Similar to the Galaxy A8s and Lenovo Z5s, the Huawei Nova 4 will initially launch in China, but it will become available in a number of other markets soon after that. Huawei already scheduled a launch event for this smartphone, the device will be presented on December 17, as the company’s official image reports, and chances are it will go on sale in China soon after that. The company’s Nova-branded phones usually arrive to Europe really soon after they become available in China, and the same will probably happen with the Nova 4, even though Huawei did not confirm anything just yet. The company’s Nova-branded phones usually end up being available in a number of countries in Europe, and other markets as well, as they’re usually quite affordable, and do have a lot to offer in terms of specs and design. The Huawei Nova 4 will take the company’s “Nova” lineup of devices to a whole new level, however, as it will be far more appealing in terms of the design than its predecessor, the Nova 3, as the Nova 3 looked more or less like a regular phone, while it had quite a bit of bezel as well, which is not the case with the Nova 4.
