Nokia 9 PureView Dummy Images Appear Along With Third-Party Cases

The Nokia 9 PureView is one of the most anticipated upcoming flagships, and the phone’s dummy images have just surfaced as part of a case leak. As you can see in the provided gallery down below, two different cases for the phone surfaced, a flip case, and your regular case, both of which seems to be made out of leather or PU leather. Now, let’s focus on cases first, shall we. These seem to be third-party cases, so it remains to be seen how accurate are images of the phone itself. The flip case is your regular flip case which you can get from eBay for a ton of phones, on the right side of the case is a place for the phone, while on the left you’ll find three compartments for credit cards and IDs of a similar size, while there’s some room for some money (in paper form) there as well. This case doesn’t seem to be magnetic or anything of the sort, there’s a velcro hook included, though. That case is pictured in both black and green colors in the gallery down below.

The second case that surfaced is your regular case, which seems to be quite thin. This case is also made out of leather or PU leather, it’s impossible to say based on the image alone. As you can see, this case keep the top and bottom of the phone exposed to drops, while buttons on the right are fully accessible, they’re not covered at all. This case is pictured in a black color only, and it reports the same design of the phone’s back that we’ve seen in a number of leaks thus far, well, they both do. Now, as you can see, dummy images of the phone are included here, and those images are quite similar to leaked renders we’ve seen recently. There are seven “rings” on the back of the device, and five of those rings are actually cameras. The sixth ring is an LED flash, which is easily visible, and the seventh (the black one) is some sort of a dual sensor, we still do not know what kind, though. It is still unclear what camera sensors will Nokia utilize in this phone, but chances are we will see a wide-angle lens, telephoto lens, ultra wide angle lens, and quite possibly even a monochrome sensor, in addition to something else.

As you can see in the provided images, all the physical keys will be placed on the right-hand side of the Nokia 9 PureView, including the volume up, volume down, and power / lock keys. Now, looking at the phone from the front, you will notice that the device sports some bezel above and below the display, more than most competing flagships do, though this phone does not sport a display notch, unlike most of those devices. The phone’s display will sport rounded corners, and it seems like “only” one camera will be included on the front side of the device, while some of its sensors will be located in the top-left corner of the phone’s front side. The device itself will be made out of metal and glass, judging by all those leaks.

Background: The Nokia 9 was supposed to launch back in September, one year after the Nokia 8 arrived, but that did not happen. HMD Global did not officially refer to it in any way, nor did the company offered its comment on the matter, but if reports are to be believed, the company opted to postpone the launch of the device, persuaded by its Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas. Mr. Sarvikas thought that the phone is not ready for the market just yet, and that move managed to anger some HMD Global employees, if rumors are to be believed. HMD Global’s employees felt like the company is missing out by not releasing the Nokia 9, and that launching it in July would be the perfect time to do it. Well, that did not happen, and the phone was postponed once more after that. In the meantime, HMD Global acquired rights to use PureView branding by Microsoft, which managed to get a lot of users excited, and rumors regarding a new name for the phone started emerging, as the Nokia 9 became the Nokia 9 PureView, basically. The Nokia 9 PureView was rumored to arrive during HMD Global’s December 5 event in Dubai, which will take place tomorrow, as HMD Global teased that three phones will be announced, but if rumors are to be believed, the Nokia 9 PureView will not be one of them, as HMD Global will be looking to announce the phone separately. Depending on which rumor you opt to believe, this smartphone will either arrive by the end of December, or in early 2019, maybe even January.

The Nokia 9 PureView will sport a large display, no doubt about it, while it will either be fueled by the Snapdragon 845, or Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8150 aka 855, depending on what name the company opts for. The Nokia 9 PureView will include at least 6GB of RAM on the inside, while it will almost certainly ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, as the device will be a part of Google’s Android One project. Rumors are also saying that the phone will support wireless charging (Qi standard), and that it will include an in-display fingerprint scanner, as leaks did not show a capacitive fingerprint scanner anywhere on the phone. The device will include some sort of a facial scanning technology as well, most probably, while stereo speakers are also rumored.

Impact: Including the Snapdragon 845 in the Nokia 9 PureView at this point may not be a good idea, as its successor is right around the corner. Considering how long HMD Global waited in order to introduce the Nokia 9 PureView, it may be wise to wait for an another month or two and release it with Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship processor which will probably become official soon. In fact, launching the Nokia 9 PureView at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, or in that timeframe, may be a great idea for HMD Global, but we’ll just need to wait and see what will happen, as the company’s plans are currently unknown.
