The OnePlus 7 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2019, and even though it is not scheduled to launch until mid-2019, a concept video surfaced and envisions the phone’s design. Truth be said, this design is quite probably not representative of a product that OnePlus plans to release next year, as it seems a bit unrealistic, but it’s a well-designed phone, that’s for sure. The design itself comes from a YouTube channel called “DBS Designing”, and that website had released a number of concept designs in the past, though this is its first OnePlus 7 concept video. Having said that, the provided video is embedded down below, and it has a duration of almost two minutes.
The device that is shown here is made out of metal and glass, which is probably what OnePlus will use in order to make the OnePlus 7 next year. This handset sports three cameras on the back, and those cameras are vertically aligned. The two cameras are a part of one unit on the back, while the third one is separated below them. Below the phone’s bottom camera you will notice OnePlus’ logo, which is red-colored in this case, and you will also notice that the phone’s cameras are protruding on the back, suggesting that the phone is quite thin. Unlike the OnePlus 6 and 6T, this concept smartphone has a flat back, so the designer envisioned a somewhat different design here.
If you take a look at the left side of the phone, you will notice its volume rocker buttons, and those buttons are actually red-colored, same as the logo on the back, which are OnePlus’ colors. Interestingly enough, the phone’s power / lock key is black-colored, as is its alert slider, which is once again placed above the power key, as it was on the OnePlus 6 and 6T. Now we come to the unrealistic part of the design, the phone’s display. The designer basically envisioned a completely bezel-less display here, which is probably not something we’ll see in 2019 at all, on any phone. You’re probably wondering where are this phone’s sensors and its front-facing camera(s), well, the designer actually envisioned this to be a sliding camera smartphone, similar to the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. If you slide the phone’s display down, its two front-facing cameras will be revealed behind the display, some sensors are included next to them, and so is the company’s logo. The designer showed several color variants of this imaginary OnePlus 7 in the video, the all-black model, the white-colored model, and the red-colored one. The source did not mention any specifications for the device, as this is a just a concept smartphone.
Will the OnePlus 7’s Design Resemble This Concept?
Well, the short answer is… it quite probably will not. It’s hard to expect for OnePlus to introduce a smartphone with a sliding camera mechanism next year, while this phone is completely bezel-less, which is still not achievable it seems, even with a sliding camera mechanism. There are a couple of phones out there that sport a sliding camera mechanism, and all of them have at least some bezel above / below the display. The real OnePlus 7 will probably sport a curved back, similar to the OnePlus 6T, unlike this concept phone, which has a flat back. The real OnePlus 7 is expected to ship with a display camera hole, similar to the OPPO R19 which had surfaced a while back. The device is expected to sport a centered display camera hole at the top of its display, though it remains to be seen if that is true, as the phone is still months from being announced, and we’re still to see some believable leaks. The OnePlus 7 may sport three cameras on the back, that part is also unknown, and if it ends up sporting three sensors, the setup may resemble the one that is pictured on this concept design, as the company will probably opt to utilize vertical and centered placement for the phone’s rear-facing cameras, once again. The OnePlus 7 will not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is to be expected, as the OnePlus 6T doesn’t sport one either.
What About Its Specs?
The OnePlus 7 will be the company’s new flagship when it lands, which essentially means it will ship high-end specifications, like its predecessors. At this point in time, we can only guess what will the OnePlus 7 bring to the table, as we did not really see all that many leaks and rumors when it comes to this phone or its specifications. In any case, the phone will almost certainly be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor which Qualcomm introduced recently. The phone will ship in several RAM variants, and its base model will sport either 6 or 8GB of RAM. More than one storage variant will also be available, while the phone will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, and on top of it OnePlus’ OxygenOS will be installed. The phone’s display will be at least 6.4 inches in diagonal, while it remains to be seen if OnePlus plans to utilize fullHD+ or QHD+ panel. The device will probably include a higher display aspect ratio than the OnePlus 6T, though. The OnePlus 6T ships with a 19.5:9 display aspect ratio, and it seems like manufacturers will switch to 21:9 display aspect ratios moving forward, though that doesn’t mean that the OnePlus 7’s display will sport such display aspect ratio, but we may see a 20:9 display aspect ratio, or something of the sort, we’ll see.
OnePlus To Introduce Three High-End Phones In 2019
OnePlus is seemingly planning to release three flagship devices in 2019. The company had confirmed that its 5G-enabled smartphone is coming, and that it will not be the OnePlus 7, but a separate phone entirely. This basically confirms that the OnePlus 7 is coming, as the company plans to stick to its release cycle, and OnePlus will almost certainly opt to release the OnePlus 7T at the end of next year as well. All three of those phones are expected to include the Snapdragon 855, the OnePlus 7 will not support 5G, and chances are the OnePlus 7T will not either, though it’s too early to tell. The company also said that it will consider releasing a smaller phone in the future, but chances are it will not happen in 2019.
