Samsung "Galaxy S10 X" To Support 5G, It Will Be Extremely Expensive: Report

A new report claims that Samsung will brand the 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy S10 as the Galaxy S10 X. The report states that the South Korean tech giant chose the name to emphasize the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series, although it also mentions that the letter could also suggest the words “eXperience” and “eXpand”.

Furthermore, while earlier articles say the company will announce its latest flagship smartphone offerings in an event that will take place in San Francisco on February 20th, the report claims that Samsung will release the LTE-only versions of the Galaxy S10 on March 8th. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S10 X will become available on March 29th. Moreover, the report also claims that the cheapest model of the Galaxy S10, which will likely launch as the Galaxy S10 E, will ship with a price tag of 800,000 to 900,000 Won, which translates to $715 to $800 at the current exchange rate. On the other hand, the Galaxy S10 X will reportedly cost between 1.6 million and 1.8 million Won ($1,429-$1,607).

The publication also shared some details about the specifications and features of the Galaxy S10 X. The report mentions that the device will sport a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display. The smartphone also includes 1TB of internal flash storage and at least 10GB of RAM, with recent reports showing that the handset will have 12GB of RAM.

The device will have six cameras according to the article, with four imaging modules found at the back and two sensors placed at the front. Furthermore, the report also says that the Galaxy S10 X will have a 5,000mAh battery, which the handset needs to compensate for the increased power consumption of the smartphone’s 5G networking components.

The report also reveals that the handset will take advantage of artificial intelligence to help the smartphone adapt to the lifestyle of its owner automatically. The AI model included with the Galaxy S10 X will automate the smartphone’s functions based on the smartphone usage pattern of the consumer. This technology can also adjust the level of performance offered by the device depending on the tasks currently performed by the user. This latest report corroborates some of the information provided in the previous rumors, although it also gave a glimpse of the software features that Samsung may include into its 5G handset.

The massive price difference between the cheapest and the most expensive variant of the Galaxy S10 is not surprising, given that other smartphone manufacturers already hinted that the 5G versions of their flagship smartphone will be more expensive than the LTE-only models. However, the next generation of 5G smartphones will likely become cheaper as the technology matures.

Furthermore, the AI-powered smartphone function automation feature may either be beneficial or an annoyance to consumers, depending on how Samsung will implement this feature. While Samsung could improve the feature like what it did with its virtual assistant Bixby, it will result in negative publicity that Samsung may not want for its flagship devices if the functionality does not work well out-of-the-box.
