A newly sighted benchmark listing seemingly revealed the chipset and some other hardware that will power one of Google’s rumored mid-rangers, the Pixel 3 Lite XL. The device was tested by popular benchmarking application Geekbench, with its results being indicative of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 being part of the package. Furthermore, the same source suggests the upcoming Android handset smartphone runs Android 9 Pie and features 6GB of RAM, more than the Pixel 3 series which launched last fall and remains Google’s latest and most capable family of smartphones to date.
Background: The Snapdragon 710 chipset brings some premium features found in Qualcomm’s flagship SoCs to the mid-range segment for the first time ever. This product includes an octa-core Kryo 360 CPU running at a maximum clock speed of up to 2.2GHz, and the Adreno 616 GPU. One of the key features of the chipset is an artificial intelligence engine that offers twice better AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 660 SoC, and the product also supports machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow and TensorFlow Lite. Furthermore, the chipset is fabricated using the 10nm process node technology, which should result in improved battery life for the device, and it also includes the Spectra 250 Image Signal Processor, which should enhance the quality of the images captured by the smartphones.
Earlier leaks already supplied details about the design of the Pixel 3 Lite XL. According to recent rumors, the device will feature a 6-inch display with FHD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Above the screen, users may find the single front-facing camera, earpiece, and additional sensors housed within a more traditional bezel. The back of the handset, on the other hand, houses the single rear camera and the fingerprint scanner, while the right side of the device includes the power button and the volume rocker. Recent reports also state that the two smartphones will feature a metal and polycarbonate construction, rather than the metal and glass build found in the flagship Pixel 3 lineup.
Earlier reports also state that the rear camera of the Pixel 3 Lite XL will feature a 12-megapixel sensor, while the selfie shooter will come with an 8-megapixel module. Moreover, according to recent leaks, the Pixel 3 Lite XL will ship with 32GB of internal flash storage, and like the search giant’s more expensive devices, the smartphone will not support storage expansion using microSD cards. Google will also launch a smaller Pixel 3 XL, according to recent rumors, and the handset will feature the same design as its larger counterpart. Unlike the more powerful chipset found in the larger Pixel 3 Lite XL, earlier leaks state that the Pixel 3 Lite will sport the Snapdragon 670 chipset, and the device will ship with 4GB of RAM and a 2,915mAh battery. Given the larger chassis of the Pixel 3 Lite XL, it is possible that smartphone will have a larger battery compared to the Pixel 3 Lite.
Impact: The latest benchmark sighting suggests that aside from the increased display size and a possible boost in battery capacity, consumers who buy the larger of the two upcoming mid-range smartphones may also benefit from above-average multitasking performance. Furthermore, the processor supposedly incorporated into the Pixel 3 Lite XL is a strong indication that the smartphone may be priced above $400. According to earlier rumors, Google will launch the Pixel 3 Lite lineup this coming spring.
