Huawei P30 Line To Feature OLED Panels, Weird Periscope Camera: Rumor

A new Huawei P30-related rumor has just surfaced in China, courtesy of QQ. Now, according to the provided info, both the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will use OLED panels, compared to LCD ones used in the P20 and P20 Pro last year. This move was more or less expected considering that the Mate 20 Pro ships with an OLED display, even though the regular Mate 20 variant still uses an LCD panel. It seems like Huawei is aiming to up its display game with the P30 series.

That is not all, though, this rumor reconfirms some previous info that surfaced, by claiming that both the P30 and P30 Pro will include an Essential PH-1-style notch, instead of the regular, wide notch, used by their predecessors and the Mate 20 Pro. This is rather interesting as we’ve already seen several renders which claim the same thing, which means that Huawei is aiming to ignore the latest trend of display camera holes, and stick to tiny notches. This also means that neither of the P30 phones will utilize 3D face scanning.

The source also mentions some specs, well, display specs. The Huawei P30 will, allegedly, include a 6.1-inch panel, while the P30 Pro will feature a 6.5-inch display. That is pretty much all the info that was mentioned regarding their displays, so we don’t really know what aspect ratios to expect, same goes for their resolutions, even though the P30 will probably utilize a fullHD+ panel, while the P30 Pro will ship with a QHD+ display, at least the choices Huawei made in the past.

Periscope Camera?!

The most interesting part of the info that the source shared comes down to cameras. The source claims that the P30 will include the same camera setup as the Mate 20 Pro, though those cameras will be vertically arranged. The P30 Pro, on the other hand, will use something a bit different. The P30 Pro is expected to include a periscope module which will enable it to zoom further, at least if the provided info is to be believed. The P30 Pro is also rumored to include the latest Sony-made IMX6 sensors, and it remains to be seen if we’ll get three or four cameras on the device.

What Else Can You Expect

We have seen quite a few rumors and leaks when it comes to these two phones, and pretty much all of them agree on one thing, the design. Both phones will be made out of metal and glass, the P30 will be smaller than its sibling, and it seems like both will include tiny notches on the display. The back side of both phones will be rounded, and there’s a good chance that both phones will include vertical setups on the back.

The Kirin 980 or the unannounced Kirin 985 will fuel these two phones, though there’s a good chance that Huawei will stick to the Kirin 980, even though rumors have been suggesting that the Kirin 985 may become available soon. Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on both phones, and you’ll get Huawei’s custom UI on top of Android. The Huawei P30 series will probably utilize at least 6GB of RAM, while you can expect to get plenty of storage as well. On top of everything, Leica’s lenses will be a part of the package as well.
