Huawei released some interesting information regarding its smartphone sales, the company said that its consumer business sales exceeded a record $52 billion last year. The company highlighted that the demand was strong for its premium handsets, even when some negative reports started surfacing regarding company’s practices, which Huawei denied on a number of occasions at this point.
The head of Huawei’s consumer division, Richard Yu, said that the company’s consumer business revenue jumped up for about 50-percent compared to 2017, and that the consumer business revenue managed to trump the company’s carrier business, which was its best-ranking business until 2018.
Now, as far as the company’s total revenue is concerned, the company said that it rose by 21-percent in 2018, to $109 billion, though the company did not really share a breakdown of its segment performance, so we really do not know which parts of the company perform the worse, though that info would be quite interesting to see, as we know that its consumer and carrier businesses are thriving.
Along with announcing its revenue for 2018, and sharing some info regarding all that, the company also announced its first 5G base station chipset which is called “Tiangang”, and its 5G modem “Balong 5000”, for which the company says that it is the most powerful 5G modem in the world, as it’s the first 5G modem that fully supports both Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) 5G network architecture.
Considering some rumors that have been out there for a while now, Huawei wanted to clarify that it has no plans of becoming a standalone semiconductor vendor which will compete against Intel and Qualcomm.
Huawei Has Sold Over 200 Million Phones In 2018
The company has had a great 2018, its sales rose quite a bit, and despite some misconduct allegations from the USA, it’s easy to say that the company was thriving in 2018, mainly thanks to its consumer and carrier businesses.
Back in July, Huawei announced that it managed to cross 100 million smartphone sales in 2018, and that it is aiming to sell 200 million by the end of 2018. Back then, that was an optimistic plan, and yet, on Christmas Eve, the company announced that it crossed that magic threshold in 2018, by selling over 200 million devices.
At the end of last year, the company said that the HONOR 10 sold extremely well, which is a phone by the company’s sub-brand, while the Huawei P20 and Mate 20 also sold extremely well, and thus helped the company achieve a “historical success”.
Huawei’s sales have been growing for years now, and the company is constantly trading places with Apple as the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Well, based on predictions for 2019, Huawei may actually keep that second place, as the company is expected to sell even more devices this year, and Apple’s last-gen iPhones haven’t been selling as well as the company expected.
Samsung still seems out of reach, though, as the company is still far ahead, but at this pace, Huawei will catch up with Samsung as well down the road, as that is the company’s wish / plans, and Huawei is not exactly shy about it.
