Twitter’s Android application has just received a rather useful update, it now allows you to alter your feed to your preference. You can now switch between “Latest” and “Top” tweets right from the app’s main screen.
Twitter has announced this change via its official account, and we’ve already received the update. Once the feature is available on your device, you will see a star icon in the top-right corner of the app’s main screen. Once you hit that icon, you will be able to choose between “Top” and “Latest” tweets setting. Your feed is set to “Top tweets” by default, so if you’d like it to be chronological, as yours truly does, you will need to select that option from the pop-up menu.
As far as we can tell, that is the only change that this update brought to the table, and that’s the only change that Twitter mentioned in its tweet. The company event shared a short GIF, showing you how to change the aforementioned setting, and that animated image is embedded down below, in case you’d like to check it out.
This is the first functionality update for the app that we’ve seen since the beginning of December. Back then, Twitter released new video controls for the app, and also client indicators. The new video controls allowed users to skip forward or back in a Twitter video, five seconds at a time, by simply tapping on either side of the display. Client indicators, on the other hand, are here to show where the tweet originated from, as in from which client was it published.
It seems like many more changes are coming to the company’s application, but Twitter is taking it one step at a time, just so that it avoids any possible missteps. The company’s CEO did say that Twitter may allow users to edit their tweets in the future, as the company is looking for a way to fix typos. It has happened to almost all of us, but a typo can get away from you, or you want to edit your tweet after you post it for whatever reason… well, you can’t, as Twitter doesn’t allow it, so such an option would be quite useful Twitter could always indicate that the tweet has been edited, and it should, in fact, so the problem is basically non-existent, but we’ll see what will happen, and when will Twitter opt for such a change.
The company has also indicated, back in October, that it wants to remove its “like” button, that heart-shaped button that you can see attached to every tweet. The company’s exec did say that removing the like button is Twitter’s goal, but that users should not expect such a change anytime soon. It is still unknown how the company may do this, but it will almost certainly not going to just remove the button, but change its purpose. It may introduce some additional reactions to tweets instead, as Facebook did, or perhaps we may get to vote on tweets… who knows. It may be a while before we see any change, as the exec hinted.
