Verizon announced on Tuesday, that it is giving all customers on its Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited plans, free Apple Music. This includes Android users.
According to the company’s blog post, Apple Music will be available on the Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited plans beginning January 17 (tomorrow). It is not bringing this to the entry-level Go Unlimited plan, but they are still eligible for the free six months of Apple Music – something that Verizon introduced last year.
Verizon’s vice president of marketing, Angie Klein stated that “when we introduced six months free of Apple Music to Verizon Unlimited subscribers, we said it was just the beginning of a great collaboration between Verizon and Apple to bring music streaming to our loyal customers.” Klein also stated that customers loved the offer, which led to Verizon expanding the value of its most popular unlimited plans. Giving customers Apple Music for free without raising the price of the plan. Apple Music is typically priced at $9.99 per month, so this is a nice added benefit.
Apple Music gives users the ability to stream over 50 million songs, anytime, anywhere. It has the largest catalog of music right now, and it will work on virtually any device you have. This includes iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, HomePod, CarPlay, PC, Android smartphones & tablets, and it even launched on Android Auto late last year. Allowing you to take your music in the car with you.
This is the latest in Verizon attempting to diversify its plans from competitors
With every carrier going back to offering up unlimited data, carriers are needing to throw in some extras to get customers attention and get them to switch over to their network. T-Mobile has added Netflix On Us, allowing users to get Netflix for free on their Simple Choice plans. Now Verizon is giving users free Apple Music. Seeing as Apple Music is one of the more popular music streaming options out there, it makes it a pretty good deal for Verizon customers that are already on these plans.
Verizon has already diversified its own unlimited plans, offering three that do technically have “unlimited” data but with different caveats. The Go Unlimited offers unlimited data, but you can be slowed for network congestion at any time, and video is just 480p. Beyond Unlimited gives users “premium” unlimited data, and might be slowed after 22GB with video at 720p and 15GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot. Finally the Above Unlimited plan gives users “premium” unlimited data up to 75GB, and boosts the mobile hotspot to 20GB. However adding Apple Music will give people more reasons to upgrade from the Go Unlimited.
Apple’s way of expanding its Music user-base
It’s no secret that Apple is expecting to miss out huge on its upcoming earnings report. It warned investors just after the new year that it was happening. Which is leading to Apple focusing more on its services revenue, since it is not selling as many iPhones in emerging countries like China. Getting Android users to sign on and start using Apple Music is a step in that direction. And it’s not new, seeing as it has been available on Android for over a year now.
