Alcatel's Spring Smartphones Leak Ahead Of MWC 2019

Industry insider Evan Blass recently leaked six Alcatel-branded smartphones that may become available to consumers within the next few months. Like the majority of Alcatel handsets over the past few years, these devices primarily target the entry-level and lower mid-range segments of the smartphone market.

The device maker’s entry-level smartphone lineup, the Alcatel 1 series, will feature two handsets, namely the Alcatel 1s and the Alcatel 1v.

The Alcatel 1v will feature Android Pie Go Edition, and it will likely be the cheaper of the two smartphones. In contrast, the Alcatel 1s will ship with the full version of Android 9 Pie pre-installed. The Alcatel 1v will sport an undetermined octa-core CPU with 4G connectivity capabilities, 2,460mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal flash storage. On the other hand, the Alcatel 1s will feature a Spreadtrum-manufactured processor, 3,060mAh battery, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal flash storage.

Even though both handsets feature a single front-facing shooter, the Alcatel 1v includes a single 8-megapixel rear camera while the Alcatel 1s ships with two rear cameras with 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel imaging modules. Both smartphones feature fingerprint sensors although the Alcatel 1s also ships with a face unlock feature.

Meanwhile, the Alcatel 3 series, which will likely target the mid-range segment of the smartphone market, includes four different devices, namely the Alcatel 3c, the Alcatel 3L, the Alcatel 3v, and the Alcatel 3. Both the Alcatel 3c and the Alcatel 3v feature a traditional top bezel above the display, which contains the earpiece and the front-facing cameras. Both handsets also feature a 6.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of HD+ and dual front-facing speakers.

However, the Alcatel 3c sports a MediaTek-manufactured quad-core CPU, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal flash storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. On the other hand, the Alcatel 3v will feature a 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal flash storage, a dual rear camera setup with 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel modules, an 8-megapixel selfie shooter, and a 4,000mAh battery.

The Alcatel 3L and the Alcatel 3, on the other hand, features a notch above the handset’s display, and it sports more powerful chipsets compared to the other two smartphones. The Alcatel 3L includes a 5.9-inch display, and it features a Snapdragon 429 quad-core chipset, two rear cameras with a 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors, an 8-megapixel front camera, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal flash storage. On the other hand, the Alcatel 3 features a 5.9-inch display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, Snapdragon 450 chipset, a 13-megapixel single rear camera, an 8-megapixel selfie shooter, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal flash storage. A 3,500mAh battery powers both handsets.

The Alcatel 3L will ship with Android Oreo pre-installed, although the device maker promises that it will upgrade the device to Android Pie. However, it did not provide a specific timeline for rolling out the software update.

Alcatel regularly launches its smartphone offerings during the Mobile World Congress event, and it is likely that the device maker will unveil its latest handset at the same venue. However, given the track record of the tech firm, it may take several months before consumers can purchase the smartphones from retail outlets.

The latest leak shows that Alcatel continues to target the entry-level and the lower mid-range segments of the smartphone market. Given how the company priced its earlier handsets, it is likely that the cheapest of Alcatel handsets, which will ship with Android Pie Go Edition, will have a price tag lower than $100.
