According to a well-known tipster, Roland Quant, who recently shared a bunch of Samsung Galaxy S10 renders, the letter “e” in the Galaxy S10e’s name stands for “essential”. Mr. Quandt claims that this information was acquired by “some carrier’s marketing material”, though such marketing material was not shared, so you’ll have to take his word for it.
We were wondering what that “e” stands for, as the Galaxy S10e moniker got confirmed yesterday by a certification filing. “Essential” actually makes sense, as the Galaxy S10e will be the most affordable Galaxy S10 model, and it has all the essentials, so that’s probably what Samsung is trying to communicate here, that’s why the company opted for the letter “e” in the Galaxy S10e’s case.
Galaxy S10e, What Do We Know Thus Far
The Galaxy S10e will be one of three Galaxy S10 variants, well, four, if we’re counting the top-of-the-line Galaxy S10+ as a separate model, and we should. In any case, the Galaxy S10e will be the only Galaxy S10 handset to sport a flat display, and it will also sport the smallest display out of the bunch. The Galaxy S10e is rumored to feature a 5.8-inch fullHD+ or QHD+ Super AMOLED display (quite probably the former).
The Galaxy S10e will be fueled by the same processor as all the other Galaxy S10 models, the Exynos 9820 in Europe and India, and the Snapdragon 855 in the US and China, so it will all depend on where you live. The Galaxy S10e will include 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the device will also be the only Galaxy S10 phone to include “only” two cameras on the back. One camera will be included on the phone’s front side, and that camera will be included in the display, so you’ll get a display hole in the top-right corner.
The Galaxy S10e will be made out of metal and glass, just like every other Galaxy S10 model, except the Ceramic Black variant. The phone’s back side will be curved, and unlike all the other Galaxy S10 units, it will not include an in-display fingerprint scanner. Recent renders more or less confirmed that the Galaxy S10e will ship with a side-facing fingerprint scanner, which is a rather interesting choice by Samsung. A Bixby key will be included on the left-hand side of this phone, along with the phone’s volume rocker buttons, while a power / lock key will sit on the right.
Other Galaxy S10 Variants
Other than the Galaxy S10e, Samsung will also introduce the Galaxy S10 and S10+ on February 20. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ will look identical, save for one detail, their front-facing cameras. The Galaxy S10 will include a single camera on the front, just like the Galaxy S10e, while the Galaxy S10+ will sport two such cameras. Both phones will ship with three cameras on the back, and both will include in-display fingerprint scanners.
The Galaxy S10 will ship with a 6.1-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED, curved display, while the Galaxy S10+ will include a 6.4-inch display of the same kind. Both devices will be available in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants, while the top-of-the-line Galaxy S10+ unit will not only support 5G connectivity and ship with a ceramic backplate, but will also include more RAM than all other models, the device is said to sport 12GB of RAM. All the Galaxy S10 variants will become official on February 20 in San Francisco, though the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10+ may become available later than its siblings.
