Galaxy S10e Name Confirmed, Flat-Screen Samsung Flagships To Return

The Samsung Galaxy S10e moniker has just been confirmed thanks to the Galaxy S10 series certification in Thailand. The Galaxy S10, S10+, and S10e got certified in Thailand, and while we knew that the first two devices are going to be named the “S10” and “S10+”, the Galaxy S10e’s name has not been confirmed, until now.

The Galaxy S10e is basically the rumored “Lite” model of the Galaxy S10 series, and it will be the most affordable Galaxy S10-branded smartphone that Samsung will announce on February 20. The Galaxy S10e will still ship with a flagship processor, but it will be a bit different than the rest of the Galaxy S10 series, but we’ll talk about that in a minute.

As far as the certification itself is concerned, we’re looking at certification by Thailand’s NBTC certification agency, and the Galaxy S10e has been certified under the SM-G970F/DS model number. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ have been certified under the SM-G973F/DS and SM-G975F/DS model numbers, and as you have probably already guessed, these are all dual SIM models (DS stands for Dual SIM).

Now, certification agencies do not usually release the name of the device that has been certified, just its model number, but in case of the NBTC, we got proper names as well, including the Galaxy S10e moniker, which is why it is clear now that Samsung opted for that name instead of the “Galaxy S10 Lite”. That makes sense, to a degree, as the “Lite” naming would suggest that the S10 is a mid-range phone, at least it did in the past for the S series, so Samsung wanted to implement a different approach.

Galaxy S10e Info Thus Far

The Galaxy S10e will be the most affordable Galaxy S10-branded smartphone, as already mentioned, and unlike the rest of the Galaxy S10 family, it will sport a flat display, at least based on rumors. In addition to its flat display, the phone will likely ship with a fullHD+ display, instead of a QHD+ one, though that part has not been confirmed.

The Galaxy S10e will include an OLED panel, though, and it will sport a display camera hole on the front, just like the regular Galaxy S10, as its camera hole will be included in the top-right corner of the display. The Galaxy S10e will include two cameras on the back, and it is rumored to sport a side-facing fingerprint scanner. This is also different from the rest of the Galaxy S10 series, as all other phones will ship with in-display fingerprint scanners.

The Galaxy S10e will be fueled by either the Exynos 9820 or Snapdragon 855, depending on where you purchase the device. European and Indian variants of the phone will ship with the Exynos 9820, while the US and China models will include the Snapdragon 855 SoC. Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the device, along with Samsung’s One UI.

The Galaxy S10e is rumored to cost €749 in Europe, and the device will include 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage on the inside, if rumors are to be believed. It is also worth noting that it will include a 5.8-inch display, which will be smaller than the Galaxy S10’s 6.1-inch and Galaxy S10+’s 6.4-inch panels.
