Huawei’s upcoming P30 series flagships will be unveiled in Paris at the end of next month according to a recently spotted press release concerning the company’s business plans in Poland. The primary purpose of the press release was to highlight plans for hiring in the region. Huawei has been facing severe problems in the region and, consequently, the smartphone event announcement was made without much fanfare.
The press release indicated that the move was due to the company’s solid standings in the country, with Huawei holding around 33.4-percent of Poland’s market share in the second quarter of 2018. So the region remains a firm stronghold for the OEM. The company plans to continue its growth there regardless of accusations and arrests related to charges of espionage. Huawei is facing similar issues in the US with accusations centering around the discovery of incriminating emails.
Speculation about Huawei’s best ever smartphones
Huawei didn’t specify exactly what handsets it will be launching but did indicate it will be the latest in the ‘P’ series of flagships. That makes it fairly obvious that these will be the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, representing the current pinnacle of the Chinese tech giant’s engineering. Leaks and rumors have been circulating about the device for quite some time including leaks of images purported to be protective cases and screen protectors for the handsets.
Each device is expected to feature a water drop-style notch but the larger Huawei P30 Pro is predicted to feature a quad-camera array on the back compared to the Huawei P30’s triple camera setup. In both cases, that will be aligned vertically but the flash for the ‘Pro’ variant will be set off to the side while the smaller device will have an LED flash that sits amidst the sensors.
On the front of the devices, speculation has indicated that a 24-megapixel selfie camera will be used. The fingerprint scanner will be placed directly under the display panel itself.
Internally, rumors have suggested that Huawei’s HiSilicon will introduce a slightly reworked Kirin 985 SoC, building on the still fresh Kirin 980 launched late last year. The original octa-core SoC features two ramped-up Cortex-A76 cores, a further pair of Cortex-A76 cores, and a quad-core Cortex-A55. It’s also heavily geared for AI-use with dedicated cores for that purpose. The improved Kirin 985 will probably include optimizations for AI, better efficiency, and a slight bump in processing power.
It has been speculated that a minimum 6GB of RAM will back up the processor and that will all almost certainly be driving Android 9 Pie out of the box.
No firm date yet
Although Huawei has now provided an official month and a general timeframe to expect the appearance of its P30 and P30 Pro flagships, it hasn’t provided an exact date or time for now. The predecessors to those handsets — the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro — were announced back on March 27 last year. It wouldn’t be unusual for the company to set a date around the same time. Shipments of those devices began just a few weeks later and a similar pattern is likely this time around on that front too.
