Motorola announced the Moto G7 series today and in doing so introduced four Moto G7-branded phones which vary in many areas. For example, all of them have a notch, but even the notch is not unified across the board.
The Moto G7 series consists of the standard Moto G7, the G7 Play, the G7 Power and the G7 Plus, and here we will take a closer look at the differences between them. This not only goes for the specifications, but also the design.
Design
All of these phones feature notches, and while the general design is quite similar, some of them have thicker “chins” than others, and they also sport slightly different rears due to the different camera setups.
The Moto G7 and G7 Plus are actually identical when it comes to the design as they both have the waterdrop notch on the front, and two cameras on the back. In addition, the fingerprint scanner is in the same place on the back and they both have a “chin” that is equal in size.
All in all, these two phones are basically impossible to tell the difference between when it comes to the design – they also feature the same-sized display, the same footprint, and even the same camera setup.
The Moto G7 Play and G7 Power are also quite similar although they do sport different display sizes, which makes it easier to differentiate between the two. These two phones also have a “chin” below the display, where you can find Motorola’s logo, and a fingerprint scanner on the back. Unlike the Moto G7 and G7 Plus, both the Play and Power models only feature one camera on the back.
They also have much larger notches than the Moto G7 and G7 Plus – instead of a waterdrop notch, Motorola opted to include a regular, wide notch.
CPU, RAM & Storage
Three out of four of the Moto G7 handsets are fueled by the same processor: the Snapdragon 632. This is Qualcomm’s mid-range, 64-bit octa-core chip. While the Moto G7, G7 Play and G7 Power come with this processor, the Moto G7 Plus is fueled by the Snapdragon 636 and that’s also a mid-range chip, albeit a but more powerful one compared to the Snapdragon 632, in part thanks to the employment of the Adreno 509 instead of the Adreno 506 GPU.
In terms of RAM, these four devices vary between 2GB and 4GB of RAM. The Moto G7 Play is the most affordable and comes with the least RAM, 2GB. It is followed by the G7 Power and its 3GB of RAM, while the Moto G7 and G7 Plus both come with 4GB of RAM. The Moto G7 Play and G7 Power pack in 32GB of storage, while the Moto G7 and G7 Plus offer 64GB of storage.
All of the new G7 models offer storage expansion via a microSD card slot.
Display, Battery & Camera
The Moto G7 Play is by far the smallest Moto G7 handset as it sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (1512 x 720) display, while all the other Moto G7 phones come with 6.2-inch panels. The Moto G7 Power features a 6.2-inch HD+ (1520 x 720) display, and the Moto G7 and G7 Plus both come with a 6.2-inch fullHD+ (2270 x 1080) display.
Three out of four of the Moto G7 handsets come with a 3,000 mAh capacity battery: the Moto G7 Play, G7, and G7 Plus. This is in contrast to the Moto G7 Power which comes powered by a 5,000 mAh capacity battery. When it comes to charging the phones, the Moto G7 Play offers 10-watt charging, while the Moto G7 and G7 Power come with a TurboPower charger and support 15-watt charging.
In spite of the Moto G7 Plus coming with a 3,000 mAh battery like the G7 and G7 Play, it offers faster charging than any of the other Moto G7 units. The Moto G7 Plus offers 27-watt TurboPower charging, and the charger is included in the box. For those wondering, this device is compatible with Quick Charge 4.
Moving to the cameras and the Moto G7 Play and G7 Power both feature a single camera on the back, but those two cameras are not identical. The Moto G7 Play comes with a 13-megapixel (PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size) camera, while the Moto G7 Power includes a 12-megapixel (PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, 1.25um pixel size) camera. In short, the Moto G7 Power’s camera is the more capable – at least on paper.
Both phones share the same front-facing camera which utilizes an 8-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture, 1.12um pixel size) sensor.
The Moto G7 and G7 Plus both come loaded with two cameras on the back, and those dual setups also differ between models. The Moto G7 includes 12-megapixel (f/1.8 aperture, 1.25um pixel size) and 5-megapixel (depth sensor) cameras, and supports PDAF. In contrast, the Moto G7 Plus makes use of 16-megapixel (f/1.7 aperture, 1.22um pixel size, OIS) and 5-megapixel (depth sensor) cameras.
As far as front-facing cameras are concerned, the Moto G7 includes an 8-megapixel (1.12um pixel size) camera, while the Moto G7 Plus comes with a 12-megapixel (1.25um pixel size) unit.
Colors & Pricing
The Moto G7 Play comes in Starry Black and Deep Indigo color variants, while the Moto G7 Power will be available in Marine Blue color. The Moto G7 and G7 Plus will be available to purchase in Ceramic Black and Clear White colors.
All four devices go on sale in Brazil and Mexico starting today. Other regions are expected to get them in the coming months.

The Moto G7 Play is the most affordable at $199, while the Moto G7 Power costs $249. The Moto G7 will be available to purchase at $299, and the Moto G7 Plus will arrive in Europe priced at €299.
