The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active has leaked once again, this time in an image gallery shared by WinFuture, showcasing the wearable in different colors from all possible angles. So far the device has largely been spotted in renders focusing on the watch face, but the latest image gallery also offers a preview of the back of the smartwatch confirming an array of health sensors similar to the one sported by the 2018 Galaxy Watch model.
No additional colors aside from the existing four have been revealed in the leaked image gallery which suggests that this may be the entire color palette offered by Samsung for its upcoming smartwatch model. Same as before, the list includes black, gray, dark turquoise and gold pink, and each color persists across the silicon strap and the metal case itself.
The images revealing the back of the smartwatch confirm that the new wearable will have five health sensors similar to the Galaxy Watch launched last year, which means that it should offer automatic heart rate recording and various other fitness-related features. They also confirm that this year’s smartwatch is identified by the model number SM-R500 which has been spotted previously on several occasions including in the FCC database.
Worth reminding is that the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active will only be available in a single dimension, according to recent reports, and this will be unlike the OEM’s previous smartwatch models which came in two sizes. Having said that, the image gallery below should technically offer a preview of the final design which is said to be based on a 1.1-inch circular display. This new circular panel is smaller by 0.1 or 0.2 inches compared to previous generations, but it will retain its AMOLED properties and offer Always-On functionality.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is expected to arrive with a new version of Tizen OS featuring a reworked user interface inspired by Samsung’s One UI, complete with a handful of new watch faces and the ability to detect additional fitness activities. As far as the exterior design goes, it represents a huge departure from the OEM’s previous smartwatch models primarily because it lacks a physical rotating bezel and instead adopts a cleaner and simpler design language which will likely dictate how future smartwatch models will continue to evolve in the coming years.
Time will tell if the rotating bezel is out of the equation for good, but if the new model will prove successful then there’s no reason to believe Samsung will make a return to its previous design language anytime soon.
The Korean giant is expected to take the veil off its newest smartwatch in a matter of days, on February 20 to be precise, when the new Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone series will be introduced in San Francisco. Pricing is unclear so it remains to be seen whether the new Galaxy Watch Active will have a similar launch price as last year’s model which was released for $329 and $349 for the 42mm and 46mm sizes, respectively.
Time will tell if the new design language will require a higher price tag, or if the lack of a physical rotating bezel coupled with a smaller screen and battery will allow Samsung to make the smartwatch available at a lower price point.
