Sony’s “CinemaWide” trademark has surfaced at EUIPO (EU Intellectual Property Office), and it seems like this is the name for the Xperia XZ4’s upcoming display. The development suggests Sony will be targeting the unique feature at movie aficionados and film junkies, likely advertising it as offering a particularly immersive viewing experience.
The listing does not specifically say what this is, but it’s fairly certain this is a name for the Xperia XZ4’s display. This filing dates back to February 4, which means it was submitted just a couple of days ago, and the sheer name “CinemaWide” suggests that rumors are true, that the Xperia XZ4 will include a display with a 21:9 display aspect ratio. That is more or less all the info that this filling shared with us, but considering this display almost certainly belongs to the Xperia XZ4, we may have more info about it, as a ton of rumors and leaks surfaced over the last couple of weeks.
Sony Xperia XZ4 Details
If rumors are to be believed, the Xperia XZ4 will feature a 6.5-inch 3360 x 1440 display, which comes to 21:9 aspect ratio, and this filing suggests that it will be called “CinemaWide Display”. That display will probably be flat, and it will be interesting to see if this is an OLED panel, though it hopefully will, as the Xperia XZ3 was Sony’s first-ever smartphone with an OLED display, so going back to an LCD panel would be a downgrade.
The phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, though it is unclear whether it will support 5G or not. It is possible that Sony does not plan to include 5G support in the Xperia XZ4, and that it is saving that feature for the Xperia XZ4 Premium or XZ5 which will probably arrive later this year.
The Sony Xperia XZ4 will include at least 6GB of RAM, while it is expected to pack in 128GB of internal storage. A 4,400mAh battery has been rumored for the device, and the phone will support fast charging (quite probably Qualcomm’s Quick Charge), and wireless charging will probably be included as well.
Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the phone, along with Sony’s custom UI. As far as cameras are concerned, the phone is rumored to sport a 52-megapixel main sensor on the back, accompanied by a 26-megapixel secondary camera, and a third 8-megapixel camera. A 24-megapixel camera will probably be included on the device’s front side.
The Xperia XZ4 will almost certainly be made out of metal and glass, and leaks are suggesting that the phone will not include a notch or a display hole, instead, Sony opted for slightly thicker top and bottom bezels. That is actually rather interesting considering that the Xperia XZ4 will be quite tall as it is due to its 21:9 display.
The Xperia XZ4 will be announced on February 25, Sony had already sent out invites for that press conference. The phone’s extremely tall display probably won’t be for everyone, and it does seem to be a bit too tall, even for today’s standards, but we’ll have to wait for the company to announce the device in order to be sure.
