A new benchmark shows another possible model of the Google Pixel 3 XL Lite with even lower RAM capacity and less powerful chipset. According to a Geekbench listing, this device sports 3GB of RAM and the Snapdragon 625 processor.
While some of the recently launched mid-range smartphones still feature 3GB of RAM, it is interesting to see that Google is developing a model of the Pixel 3 XL Lite with a processor that Qualcomm unveiled back in 2016. In the past few years, this company released a number of chipsets that offer better performance and enhanced power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 625 SoC. It is also worth noting that the benchmarked Pixel 3 XL Lite unit runs Android 9 Pie.
This listing is the third benchmark result that provided information about the specifications of the Pixel 3 XL Lite , and interestingly, it is the only listing that claims that the handset will sport the Snapdragon 625 SoC.
The first benchmark result, which appeared back in January, suggests that the Pixel 3 XL Lite will feature 6GB of RAM and the Snapdragon 710 chipset. A couple of weeks later, another Geekbench listing revealed that Google is likely working on another model of the Pixel 3 XL Lite, called the Pixel 3a XL, which will feature the same processor, although it will only have 4GB of RAM.
In comparison to the Snapdragon 710, the Snapdragon 625 SoC does not only have weaker performance in general tasks, but there will be a more significant gap between the two chipsets in terms of computational prowess in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning tasks.
Several reports already detailed the specifications of the Pixel 3 XL Lite. Rumors indicate that the handset will feature a 6-inch fullHD+ display and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, and unlike some of Google’s recent smartphone offerings, the device features a more traditional bezel above the screen that contains the front-facing camera and the earpiece.
Recent reports state that despite the mid-range status of the Pixel 3 XL Lite , the handset will have a 12-megapixel rear camera and it will still feature Google’s HDR+ technology found in the company’s flagships. On the other hand, the front-facing shooter comes with an 8-megapixel sensor, and it will reportedly include 32GB of internal flash storage. Aside from the Pixel 3 XL Lite, rumors claim that Google will also launch the Pixel 3 Lite, which will likely feature the Snapdragon 670 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and a 2,915mAh battery.
Given that many of the services offered by the search giant rely on machine learning and the device performs some of these AI tasks, it would be an interesting decision for Google to include the Snapdragon 625 processor into its mid-range smartphones, which lacks the improved AI performance of some of the newer chipsets.
While there is limited information about the availability of the handset, recent certifications by the Federal Communications Commission of six Google smartphones suggest that the search giant may launch new Pixel 3 handset soon. In fact, a number of new phones were spotted, so who knows, Google may introduce several mid-rangers in the near future.
