A new concept by Phone Designer envisions how the Google Pixel 4 (XL) could look like based on the design elements found in the Pixel 3 (XL) and the Samsung Galaxy S10. Phone Designer released several images of the Pixel 4 concept on Twitter, and these images show both the Pixel 4 and the larger Pixel 4 XL.
In this concept design, the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL both sport display cutouts for the front-facing selfie shooters located at the upper right corner of the device. However, the smaller handset includes a circular hole that contains a single front-facing camera, while the larger Pixel 4 XL features a pill-shaped cutout that houses two imaging sensors, just like the Galaxy S10 and S10+.
The inclusion of screen cutouts results in the removal of the notch above the display and the slight shift towards the left of both signal and battery indicators in the user interface. Another noticeable feature of the Pixel 4 concept design are the very slim bezels surrounding the display.
This smartphone concept design, on the other hand, keeps the design language of the rear panel of the Pixel 3, although the larger Pixel 4 XL sports two horizontally arranged rear cameras. The concept designs place the handset’s rear imaging modules at the upper left-hand corner of the back panel. Both handsets lack rear-mounted fingerprint sensors and instead, the two Pixel handsets could sport in-display fingerprint readers.
Retaining the Pixel 3’s design, the right side of the Pixel 4 concept contains a green-colored power button and the volume rocker. The concept handset also features the USB Type-C port at the bottom, although, like recent Pixel handsets, the device lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Even though the creator of the concept design claims that the renders are based on the rumors surrounding the handset, it may take some more time before additional leaks that confirm the design and specifications of the Pixel 4 handset appear. Google announced the Pixel 3 series back in October 2018, and the search giant will likely launch its upcoming flagship handsets around the same time this year.
Nonetheless, the concept design incorporates some of the hardware trends observed in recent flagship handsets, which include under-screen fingerprint sensors and display cutouts. Given that previous Google flagship handsets sported top-of-the-line internals, it is likely that the Pixel 4 will feature the Snapdragon 855 chipset from Qualcomm.
Meanwhile, the firmware of Android Q suggests that the upcoming flagship device of the search giant will feature dual SIM support, and this functionality will allow the Pixel 4 to use one SIM to make phone calls while the other SIM card accesses the mobile data network. More features of the Pixel 4 will likely appear as the beta testing cycle of the latest version of the Android operating system progresses.
Aside from the Pixel 4 handsets, rumors indicate that Google is working on two mid-range handsets, namely the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL. Moreover, the search giant may be developing a foldable handset that could fold in multiple ways, based on a recent patent the company filed with the WIPO.
It is likely that Google will launch the Pixel 4 devices later this year, in September or October, and it is possible that the handset’s design is far from finalized. However, this design concept shows how Google may follow industry trends in creating its upcoming flagship while retaining some of the features that set the handset apart from competing devices.
