A recent Geekbench result page confirms that the Huawei P30 Pro will feature the Kirin 980 chipset. The identifier that the benchmark app used for the processor inside the upcoming flagship is the same one utilized for the Kirin 980 chipset found in other flagship offerings of the Chinese tech giant, including the Huawei Mate 20. Moreover, the chipset tested by the benchmarking application sports a similar base frequency and managed a similar single-core score as the Kirin 980. In addition to identifying the chipset that powers the P30 Pro, the listing reveals that the handset under the model number VOG-L29 will also sport 8GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie. However, users should expect that Huawei’s proprietary software, EMUI, will run on top of Google’s operating system.
At this point, several rumors already provided information about the design and specifications of the Huawei P30 Pro. Recent reports indicate that the handset will have a total of four imaging sensors located at the back of the smartphone. Three of these cameras are equipped with conventional imaging sensors and are aligned vertically, while located beside these shooters are the LED flash and the Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor. The ToF module allows the P30 Pro to determine more accurately the distance between the object and the smartphone, and the data obtained by the sensor is useful in processing 3D images. Like other Huawei flagships smartphones, the lenses of the P30 Pro’s cameras will likely come from Leica, and one of the cameras of the P30 Pro will reportedly feature a 10x optical zoom technology. While it did not provide any specific information about how Huawei will incorporate optical zoom into the P30 Pro, an executive from the Chinese tech giant hinted that like its rival handset maker OPPO, it would be using a periscope lens technology.
Aside from the improvements made to the rear cameras, Huawei also introduced slight modifications to the design of its upcoming flagship handset offerings. One of the more noticeable changes is the smaller notch, which now has a waterdrop shape and houses the front-facing camera. In comparison, the Huawei P20 featured a larger cutout, which contains the camera and the earpiece. Furthermore, there is a marked reduction in the size of the top and bottom bezels in the P30 handsets compared to the P20 devices.
Aside from the P30 Pro, rumors claim that Huawei will also launch two more handsets in the P30 series, and these products include the standard model of Huawei P30 and the P30 Lite. In comparison to the P30 Pro, the Huawei P30 will likely feature a more traditional triple rear camera setup that lacks the ToF sensor and the 10x optical zoom. Furthermore, reports state that only the P30 Pro will sport a curved glass design.
The benchmark results suggest that the P30 Pro will sport top-tier internal hardware to complement the handset’s premium design and camera features. Furthermore, those who purchase the handset can take advantage of the features incorporated into Android Pie, on top of the proprietary functionalities that Huawei will add as part of EMUI. More information about the device should become available in a matter of days.
