Huawei Launches Smaller, "Elegant" Edition Of Watch GT

Huawei also announced a new size for the Watch GT, the Elegant which is going to be a smaller 42mm watch. While the regular 46mm version is now the “Active” version of the Watch GT. Huawei did improve battery life on both of these, with the Elegant lasting a full week with heart rate monitoring on, and the Active doubling that to two weeks. Without heart rate monitoring, it will still last a full month, before it needs to be charged.

With the Watch GT Elegant Edition now being smaller at 42mm, Huawei now has an option for those with smaller wrists. As the larger 46mm watch was a pretty large watch, and didn’t work to well for those with smaller wrists. Huawei also debuted a few new colors for the Huawei Watch GT series as a whole. The Huawei Watch GT Elegant Edition comes in two colors: Magic Pearl White and Tahitian Magic Black Pearl.

The Huawei Watch GT Elegant Edition does come with a smaller 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390×390. That is compared to the 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 454×454 resolution found on the Watch GT Active Edition. It also has a smaller battery than the Active Edition, but Huawei has not mentioned the specific battery capacities on either watch.

Huawei made a few tweaks to the body of the Watch GT this time around, though they aren’t huge so it’s not a brand new model. This includes a casing that is all black, and on the Watch GT Elegant Edition, there are no numbers on the bezel. Giving it a sleeker look too.

The Watch GT is running on Lite OS, which is a proprietary wearables OS that Huawei has built in-house. The reason why it is using Lite OS versus Wear OS, is because it is much lighter. Allowing the smartwatch to last a full month on a charge. That was one thing that Huawei said its customers were complaining about with the Huawei Watch. The fact that it needed to be charged every day or two. Which is an issue with Wear OS. So Huawei built Lite OS, which is much lighter than Wear OS and doesn’t have as many apps or functionality. But you still get the ability to track your workouts using the Watch GT, as well as getting notifications on your wrist. The things that most people want from a smartwatch.

Huawei did give pricing and availability for the new Watch GT models, at least for Europe. The Huawei Watch GT Elegant Edition will be €229, and the Watch GT Active Edition will be slightly more at €249. These are still somewhat expensive smartwatches, almost the same price as many Wear OS smartwatches. But Huawei is confident that users are going to want the Watch GT over those, primarily due to the battery life of nearly a month on a single charge. Huawei did not mention pricing and availability for the US. It will likely be coming to the US in the coming weeks, considering the Watch GT is already available in the US.
