OPPO Teases Next Android Flagship With 10x Hybrid Zoom, SD855

It’s been only one day since OPPO introduced its latest flagship phone to the world – the OPPO F11 Pro – but apparently, the OEM’s Vice President, Shen Yiren Brian, is ready to reveal more key technical details surrounding yet another upcoming top-tier OPPO device. In a recent post on the social network Weibo brought to light by DroidShout, the VP revealed that this unannounced phone should be powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset from Qualcomm along with a 4,065mAh battery, and boast a camera configuration with 10x hybrid zoom capabilities.

OPPO teased the fact that it has developed a 10x lossless zoom solution for mobile phones many months ago, and at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month the OEM demonstrated this technology and confirmed that it’s working on two high-end 5G-enabled smartphones which will take advantage of this new camera technology.

The OPPO F11 and F11 Pro are not these devices. They don’t offer 5G connectivity or 10x lossless zoom for the rear-facing camera array. But these upcoming phones that impressed the MWC crowd have been hyped by the OEM and confirmed to make the switch from MediaTek’s chipset solution to the Snapdragon 855 silicon from Qualcomm.

Interestingly, the machine translation of the recent Weibo post suggests that this mysterious upcoming flagship will have “10x hybrid” zoom, not lossless 10x zoom. This could mean that the device mentioned by the VP in the recent Weibo post is yet another upcoming flagship which hasn’t been mentioned at MWC and will combine the lossless zoom technology with digital zoom to achieve 10x results.

The possibility that this is a new device unrelated to the ones demoed at MWC can be argued further given that the VP failed to mention 5G connectivity in the recent Weibo post. Then again, the OEM’s 5G phones will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset coupled with Qualcomm’s X50 modem, so perhaps some miscommunication occurred due to machine translation and the next flagship does have 10x lossless zoom technology, which would link it with the two devices brought by OPPO at MWC last month.

However the story will unfold, the OPPO F11 and F11 Pro are the OEM’s latest flagship phones expected to hit the shelves by the end of the month, and it may take until the second half of the year for OPPO to release its next premium device.

OPPO continues to push the boundaries of mobile photography with new innovations, and this can also be noticed with the latest F11 Pro model featuring a motorized pop-up selfie camera with a resolution of 16-megapixels and HDR capabilities. This particular design allowed the OEM to create a device with thin bezels all around and no display notches or punch holes.

On the other hand, the OPPO F11 has the same internal components and rear-facing camera configuration as the Pro model, but employs a more conventional design for the front-facing camera, placing it in a teardrop-style display notch. Both models are powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage.

More technical details surrounding OPPO’s first phone with 10x zoom capabilities are bound to emerge in the coming months, especially since the VP is already eager to discuss it on social media networks.
