There is no shortage of options when it comes to choosing your next (or first) robot vacuum, so how do you narrow down the pack? Neato offers a variety of intelligent robot vacuums, from the more affordable Botvac D4 and D6 connected lines to the premium-range Botvac D7 Connected that we have for review here. Since launching in March 2018, Neato has updated the Botvac D7 Connected with several top-class features that place the premium robot vacuum among the elite range on the market.
First was the multi-floor feature, launched last summer, that gave the robot the ability to recognize more than just the main floor in your home. This allowed users to receive proper cleaning maps for each floor, provided they purchased an additional base station for charging, and subsequently provided a way for the vacuum to more efficiently clean the floor because of this additional base station. Neato used the opportunity to launch a new feature called Quick Boost which will only charge the vacuum as much as it needs in order to finish cleaning the saved floorplan.
This saves cleaning time, making the Botvac D7 Connected one of the fastest cleaning robot vacuums on the market. Comparatively, other robot vacuums need to fully charge before venturing out again, meaning there could be several hours between the initial run and any subsequent cleaning runs that are needed. Additional clean maps also means that virtual No-Go lines are more useful than ever before, as you can easily block off sections of any floorplan instantly through the Neato app and remove them when they are no longer needed.
At the end of 2018, Neato launched the Zone Cleaning feature with another software update, bringing about a whole new way to clean your home with the Botvac D7 Connected. This new feature allows users to divide their homes into zones, which can be thought of as rooms or groups of rooms, in order to clean more efficiently. Sometimes you just want to clean the dining room and kitchen after a meal, or the living room after having guests over, and this zone cleaning feature makes it easy to do just that. Other times you may want to schedule specific cleaning routines for certain rooms or portions of the home on a regular schedule, which is also a very real possibility with the Zone Cleaning feature.
Neato’s patented D-shape design is back and as good as ever, with a near end-to-end roller brush situated toward the front for a wider cleaning area than other robot vacuums. It’s a unique shape and operation that could be better for your home, and the design of the roller brush itself means that it’s going to perform differently than iRobot’s latest Roomba i7+ robot vacuum.
