Huawei Aiming To Overtake Samsung In 2020, CEO Says

Huawei’s Executive Director and CEO of the Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, believes that Huawei can overthrow Samsung next year. Mr. Yu said that during a recent interview, according to Bild (via Business Insider).

Huawei’s CEO believes that Huawei can become the world’s number one smartphone manufacturer in 2020, but he also said that he believes that Samsung and Apple will remain the company’s main competitors, as those two companies can “deliver innovation”.

Mr. Yu also added that consumers are interested in large displays, it seems as they want to see a constant increase in display size, which is where the company’s Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone comes in. Mr. Yu did admit that the Mate X is not for everyone, as it is a new form factor, and it will also be quite expensive at first, while he also claims that the demand for the phone is quite large despite that. Mr. Yu did say, during a recent interview, that he expects foldable phones to become quite a bit more affordable in the future.

As a reminder, back in 2016, Huawei did set its sights on Apple, aiming to overthrow the company in 2019, and claim that second place on the sharts. Huawei actually managed to do that last year, when it became the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer, the company managed to achieve that in August last year. At the same time Huawei set its sights on Apple, the company also said that it plans to become the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer in 2021, but it seems like Huawei did better than expected, and is aiming to jump over Samsung in 2020.

Huawei managed to break even more records last year, as the company was able to sell over 200 million smartphones on a global scale, and Huawei is looking to improve upon that this year. Huawei expects to sell 250 million smartphones by the end of 2019, and up that to 300 million in 2020.

Huawei’s has a huge appetite it seems, which is not exactly all that surprising considering how well the company has been doing for years now. Huawei is constantly growing despite its growing issues with the US.

The company had recently introduced its new flagship smartphones, the Huawei P30, and P30 Pro, and it seems like there’s quite a bit of interest in both of those devices. That is not all that surprising considering that the two phones deliver great camera experience, and are ahead of the pack according to DxOMark. We still have to test out the P30 and P30 Pro, but those are some of the most important devices for the company this year.

In addition to the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, the company also quietly announced the P30 Lite, which is a mid-range handset aimed at a completely different type of consumers. The Huawei Mate 30 series of devices is expected to arrive later this year, while Huawei will introduce various other devices in between as well. It remains to be seen what will happen by the end of the year, but if Huawei manages to sell 250 million devices in 2019, it will probably be on its way to catching up to Samsung in 2020.
