OnePlus has started pushing out new Open Beta updates to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. The OnePlus 5 is now receiving Open Beta 30 update, while Open Beta 28 is rolling out to the OnePlus 5T.
The company has published a full changelog on its official website, as per usual, and this time around, we’re seeing quite a few changes for both devices. First and foremost, it is worth noting that the changelog is completely identical for both phones, and that Android security patch for April is included in this update.
This update will improve network speed display on both smartphones, while it also improves page indicator to mirror icon pack, if you’re using the company’s very own OxygenOS launcher which comes pre-installed on the device.
Now, some new features have been added to both devices in this update. Both the OnePlus 5 and 5T who get updated to this version of OxygenOS beta will support shortcuts to access corresponding interfaces in Quick Settings.
Those of you who have been waiting for quick reply support in landscape mode, well, it’s here, as you can now quickly reply to messages from the notification bar even if you’re in landscape mode. Aside from an improved page indicator, OnePlus’ OxygenOS launcher received some more changes. A tutorial has been added for the Shelf, and the Parking location feature has also found its way to Open Beta 28 and 30 updates for these two smartphones.
As you can see, these are not exactly earth-shattering features, but quite a few changes have been introduced here. Pretty much all of these changes are expected to arrive to the OnePlus 5 and 5T in the next stable update, or perhaps next few stable updates, we’ll see.
Needless to say, you need to be running OnePlus’ beta software in order to get either of these two updates OTA (over the air), if you are, the update will hit your phone in the near future, if it hasn’t already.
It is worth noting that this is just a beta software, so it’s not as stable as it should be, some problems are possible. If you would like to get Open Beta software on your OnePlus handset, you will need to manually flash it. Flashing instructions are available from the link included in the first paragraph (directly from OnePlus), but please do note that you could brick your phone if you don’t know exactly what to do, so if you don’t have experience with flashing, we’d like to advise you not to do it.
The OnePlus 5 and 5T have both been released back in 2017, and they’re still quite popular with OnePlus users, as quite a few of them are waiting for either the OnePlus 7 or 7T to drop this year, in order to upgrade. The OnePlus 5 and 5T are still quite powerful as well, they’re both fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm, and have plenty of RAM, in addition to OLED displays. All in all, it’s nice to see that OnePlus is still pushing updates for the two phones, and a stable update will hopefully hit both of these phones soon, with features we’ve talked about today.
