According to yesterday’s report, Redmi’s CEO suggested that the company’s upcoming Snapdragon 855 flagship will not sport a pop-up camera, and the alleged device now surfaced in China.
If you take a look at the video down below, a video clip that surfaced on Weibo (Chinese social network), you will see a phone that is made out of metal and glass, and which comes with a display camera hole.
The device’s display camera hole is placed at the top of the display, and it is centered, unlike on the Galaxy S10 series of smartphones and the HONOR View20. If this leak ends up being true, Redmi’s upcoming flagship may become the very first smartphone to ship with a centered display camera hole, at least to our knowledge.
The phone features really thin bezels, while it does have a “chin” below its display. The phone’s display corners are rounded, while the phone sports three cameras on the back. Those three cameras are vertically aligned and included in the top-left corner of the device’s backside.
If this device is legit, Redmi’s upcoming flagship will not include an in-display fingerprint scanner, as a fingerprint scanner is placed on the back of this phone. An LED flash is also included on this phone, and it is placed right below the triple camera setup on the back. Those three cameras do seem to protrude a bit, by the way, while the phone’s back side is curved.
We did not see many leaks regarding the specs of this device. One leak did surface, but it was accompanied by a fake render of the phone (with a pop up camera), so the spec info is probably fake as well.
We do know that this phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, and that it will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box. Redmi’s smartphones ship with Xiaomi’s MIUI Android overlay, so the same will happen with this device as well, as MIUI 10 will come pre-installed.
Redmi became its own entity recently, the company is still very much owned by Xiaomi, but Xiaomi decided to separate it from the main company, something similar to what Huawei has done with HONOR, for example.
The upcoming flagship is also expected to sport a large battery on the inside, while its display will probably be larger than 6 inches, but we’re still not sure how large. You can expect to see a fullHD+ display on this phone, while the device is rumored to sport a 48-megapixel main camera on the back, identical to the one on the HONOR View20.
The other two cameras will probably ultra-wide-angle and telephoto ones, while it remains to be seen if Redmi will opt for an LCD or OLED display when it comes to this device. Redmi’s upcoming flagship will also include two SIM card slots, almost certainly. The device is expected to launch in the near future, but we still do not know when exactly. Redmi is expected to start sharing more teasers when it comes to the device, and when that happens, we’ll know that the launch event is close by.
