Redmi's First Flagship Spotted In CEO's Hands; Powerful Specs Leak

Redmi’s upcoming flagship smartphone has been spotted in the wild, in the hands of the company’s CEO. In addition to that, some specifications that are expected to be a part of that offering also surfaced in China.

Before we begin, it is worth noting that Redmi is now a separate entity, and no longer just a name that Xiaomi uses for its budget phones. Redmi became a separate company at the beginning of this year, and the company’s CEO did confirm a while back that Redmi intends on releasing flagship-grade devices.

Redmi’s CEO, Lu Weibing, has been spotted carrying a smartphone that could be the company’s upcoming flagship. Quite recently, the company’s CEO did confirm that Redmi’s upcoming flagship will not sport a pop-up camera, and considering how far away is the phone in the provided image, it’s really difficult to see whether it has a camera cutout or not. The image is extremely muddy when zoomed in, but that you can check out that version in the gallery as well.

It is clear from this image that the phone will not sport a notch, while its camera may be located in the top-left or top-right corners, it’s impossible to tell based on the provided image. This image also proves that Redmi’s flagship will sport extremely thin bezels, even below the display, as the chin seems to be non-existent.

As far as the spec leak is concerned, it also surfaced on Weibo (Chinese social network), and it does reveal some key specs of the phone. According to this image, Redmi’s flagship will feature a 6.39-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) display, while it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor.

This image also claims that the device will pack in 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the back of the phone, you can expect to see three cameras, 48-megapixel, 8-megapixel, and 13-megapixel units, though this image did not share any specific detail when it comes to those three cameras. A 32-megapixel unit will be placed on the front side of the phone, if the provided info is to be believed.

Redmi’s upcoming flagship will almost certainly ship with Android 9 Pie, though that part was not mentioned in the provided leak. On top of Android 9 Pie, you can expect to see MIUI 10, which is the newest iteration of Xiaomi’s Android overlay. Redmi’s first flagship will almost certainly be made out of metal and glass, and chances are its rear-cameras will be vertically-aligned.

It is yet unclear whether the phone will include an in-display fingerprint scanner, or a regular capacitive unit on the back. If it ends up sporting an in-display unit, Redmi will almost certainly include an optical in-display fingerprint scanner, similar to the one included in the Xiaomi Mi 9, if not that same one.

We do not know when will Redmi pull the trigger and announce its very first flagship smartphone, but considering the number of leaks we’ve seen thus far, and the fact that the company’s CEO was actually spotted with the working unit of the device, Redmi may launch it soon.
