Samsung Malaysia’s YouTube channel has published a rather interesting promo video, a video that confirms the demise of the company’s Galaxy J series of devices. In this one-minute video, Samsung wanted to inform its consumers that the Galaxy J series has become the Galaxy A series, essentially. In other words, Galaxy J has merged with the Galaxy A series, but the Galaxy A name prevailed.
In that very same video, Samsung moves on to promote its Galaxy A30 and A50 smartphones which are available in Malaysia. This video has been published a couple of days ago, but it comes at just the right time, as Samsung is actually hosting a Galaxy A-related press conference tomorrow.
During that press conference, the company is expected to announce several Galaxy A-branded phones, and taking Samsung Malaysia’s YouTube video into account, the company may even confirm, on a global scale, that the Galaxy J series is done for.
The company’s Galaxy J series has been around for quite some time now, and it has represented Samsung’s entry-level smartphones. The Galaxy A was Galaxy J series’ mid-range counterpart, while the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series of smartphones were the company’s most powerful offerings.
Now, Samsung had already announced a number of Galaxy A devices this year, including the Galaxy A10, A20, A30, A40, A50, and A70. That leaves us with two rumored devices, the Galaxy A80 and A90. Some rumors have been claiming that these two phones are one and the same, while others are claiming that both will become official at some point.
Having that in mind, the Galaxy A80 is rumored to make an appearance tomorrow, unless the company opts to ditch the A80 naming and goes with the A90, if it turns out those are the same devices. In any case, the device in question has leaked several times thus far, and it is rumored to be made out of metal and sport a pop-up and rotary camera system, all in one.
If the leaked info is accurate, the device’s rear-facing camera will rise up when you flip the switch to a selfie camera in the camera app, and then they will rotate to become front-facing cameras. This is a rather interesting setup, one that we have not seen before. The phone will include almost no bezel, and thanks to its rotating cameras, it won’t sport a display notch or a display hole either.
The Galaxy A80 / A90 (assuming they’ll both the same phone) will feature a 6.7-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) OLED display, 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, at least if rumors are to be believed. The phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 7150 64-bit octa-core processor, while a 3,700mAh non-removable battery had also been mentioned. The phone is rumored to include 48, and 8-megapixel cameras on the back, in addition to a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. It remains to be seen if any additional A series devices will be re-announced tomorrow for a global market, but one thing is for sure, the Galaxy A80 / A90 will be the star of the show.
