According to Evan Blass, a well-known tipster, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will arrive to the US on May 16. Mr. Blass shared the info via Twitter in form of a semi-cryptic tweet, while he also added that this will be a Verizon Wireless launch for the device, so it seems like Verizon will be the very first US carrier to offer Samsung’s very first 5G-enabled handset.
Verizon Wireless had started rolling out its 5G network in Chicago and Minneapolis, so this is not all that surprising. AT&T will carry the Galaxy S10 5G as well, later this year, though the source did not provide any info on that just yet. We also do not know how much will the phone cost once it reaches the US, but one thing is for sure, it will not be cheap.
The phone costs around $1,100 (base model) in Samsung’s homeland, South Korea, so you can expect it to go over $1,200 (outright) once it reaches the US, that’s at least our assumption. More than one variant of the phone will probably be available in the States, though, same as in Korea. Samsung opted to offer 256GB and 512GB storage variants of the Galaxy S10 5G in Korea, and it is possible that those two variants will hit the US as well.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G was announced back in February along with all the other Galaxy S10 series phones, the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+. The Galaxy S10 5G is the most powerful variant in the series, and the only one that features four cameras on the back. Truth be said, the fourth camera is a ToF (Time of Flight) camera, so it’s more of a sensor rather than anything else.
The Galaxy S10 5G is also the largest Galaxy S10-branded smartphone, this phone features a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED, curved display, in which you will notice two front-facing cameras which are included in the top-right corner, same as on the Galaxy S10+. The Galaxy S10 5G does not have the same front-facing cameras like the Galaxy S10+, though, it comes with a 10-megapixel camera and a ToF camera, while the Galaxy S10+ includes 10 and 8-megapixel sensors.
The Galaxy S10 5G includes really thin bezels, it is made out of metal and glass, and its rear-facing cameras are horizontally-aligned. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and the only two variants that Samsung announced back in February we’ve already mentioned, options with 256GB and 512GB of RAM. The Galaxy S10 5G will not offer storage expansions, while it will ship with a 4,500mAh non-removable battery, and it will support fast wired charging (25W), fast wireless charging (15W), and reverse wireless charging (9W).
On the back of the device, you will be able to find two 12-megapixel cameras, one 16-megapixel camera, and a ToF camera. Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the device, while the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor will fuel the device in the US. The Galaxy S10 5G is IP68 certified like all the other Galaxy S10 smartphones, while it also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, just like the Galaxy S10 and S10+. Just to be clear, this is an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, not an optical one.
