Samsung recently announced the availability of two new additions to the company’s list of tablet offerings, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e and the Galaxy Tab A 10.1. The two devices target different sets of customers as they come with distinctive features and designs, with the Galaxy Tab S5e boasting a thin and light design and the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 offering curated educational content and improved the audio-visual experience for the users in the household. Both tablets will become available on Samsung’s official website and retail outlets starting April 26th.
The South Korean tech giant boasts that the Galaxy Tab S5e sports a frame of 5.5-millimeters, which is the thinnest for a tablet with a screen size of 10.5-inches. As a result of the tablet’s thinness, the device weighs only 400 grams. The product features an AMOLED display, which has a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels, and an unidentified octa-core chipset powers the tablet.
There are two hardware variants of the Galaxy Tab S5e, with one model containing 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and another model offering 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The tablet comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter, and the product can record and playback 4K video clips with a frame rate of 30fps. Despite the thin and light design, the tablet contains a 7,040 mAh battery with support for fast charging technology, and the product comes with quad speakers that feature auto-rotate stereo technology and are tuned by AKG. However, it seems that the device does not have a headphone jack.
Software-wise, the Galaxy Tab S5e supports Samsung’s SmartThings platform, which allows the user to control household appliances directly from the device, and it also features Bixby 2.0 and the ability to use the tablet to call or reply to a message sent to your smartphone. Among the accessories that will come to the Galaxy Tab S5e will be the Book Cover keyboard and a POGO charging dock. The tablet itself will come in three assorted colors, namely black, gold, and silver, and will cost $399.99. People who will pre-order the device until April 25th will receive a SmartThings Hub for free.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1, as the name suggests, features a 10.1-inch LCD with a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels. The tablet ships with Lassen O+ octa-core chipset, and it comes in three hardware variants that contain 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and 3GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage. The device features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, and it holds a 6,150mAh battery. In terms of audio features the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 comes with dual speakers that support Dolby Atmos technology.
Samsung markets the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 as a family-oriented device, and to appeal to households, the device ships with features like Samsung Kids and Family Share. Through Samsung Kids, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 offers a variety of educational content that parents can customize according to their preferences, while the Family Share feature allows family members to share pictures and videos in their gallery, notes in the Samsung Notes app, schedule in the Calendar, and other pieces of information. In contrast to the more expensive Galaxy Tab S5e, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 ships with a cheaper price tag of $229.99.
Background: These two tablets are just two of the several devices that Samsung Electronics launched recently. The South Korean tech giant also unveiled the Galaxy A80, a handset that features a sliding and rolling mechanism that allows the cameras to take pictures from both sides of the smartphone, and the Galaxy A20e, which Samsung will sell to its users in Europe.
Impact: The different target market segments of the two new tablet offerings highlights how Samsung maintains its lead in the shrinking Android tablet market. By appealing to various audiences, the company can ship more units of its devices to interested consumers.
