An Apposite Resurrection: First ZTE 5G Smartphone Gets A Release Date

ZTE had introduced its very first 5G smartphone back in February, the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G. The company did not really confirm when will the device become official back then, or anything of the sort, but the company has now officially confirmed that the phone will be released on May 6.

The ZTE Axon 10 5G will first reach China, as this information has been published by the company’s official page on Weibo (Chinese social network), but the device is expected to reach other markets after that, as the company’s Axon-branded devices have been sold all over the globe at one point or the other.

That’s pretty much all the info that the company shared, the phone’s release date, while nothing regarding its global availability got mentioned. Chances are that ZTE will not even mention anything on May 6 either, as we’re expected to hear more about its global availability later in May, or perhaps in June, as ZTE did say back when it launched the Axon 10 5G that the phone is coming in the first half of 2019, so June at the latest.

The ZTE Axon 10 5G does seem to be quite a compelling smartphone, at least based on its design and spec sheet. The phone is made out of metal and glass, like most other flagship offerings these days. The device includes a tiny notch at the top, and an extremely thin “chin” below the display, which the company claims is the thinnest around.

The ZTE Axon 10 5G also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, and three cameras on the back. The phone’s rear cameras are vertically-aligned, and it includes 48, 20, and 8-megapixel units back there. A single 20-megapixel camera sits on the phone’s front side, inside of that display notch.

This handset features stereo speakers, and has Dolby Atmos support. If its predecessor is an indication of anything, then you can expect this phone to provide you with proper audio, as the ZTE Axon 7 was a truly compelling audio smartphone. The ZTE Axon 10 5G includes a 4,000mAh battery, and supports Quick Charge 4+, and also Qi wireless charging.

The Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor fuels this smartphone, and comes coupled with the Snapdragon X50 modem for 5G connectivity. Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the phone, and the phone features a 6.47-inch fullHD+ AMOLED display, with HDR10 support. This handset is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, while it will ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage (up to 512GB).

The ZTE Axon 10 5G will also include two SIM card slots, with dual standby, while the phone itself may be a bit narrower than you expect considering its thin bezels and high display aspect ratio. The device will be 73.4mm wide, and only 7.9mm thick. We still do not know how much it will weight, but we’re guessing around 170 or 180 grams. That is pretty much all the necessary info that you need to know at the moment, though ZTE will probably reveal some additional tidbits when the phone gets released, including its price tag.
