OnePlus has officially confirmed that Android Q will land on the OnePlus 5 and 5T, eventually. The company’s Global Product Operations Manager, Manu J., made that promise via the company’s official forums.
Android Q Beta had already been released for the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 6, and 6T, while we now know that it will arrive to the OnePlus 5 and 5T as well. That also confirms that a final build will be available as well, of course. The company’s official made sure to let everyone know that there are not ETAs, so it will become available when it becomes available, there’s no rush.
Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, the OnePlus 7 will receive Android Q as well, but it has not been mentioned by the company’s official as it is not available for purchase just yet. We’re sure that the phone will get Android Q Beta access soon after it goes on sale, and it is scheduled to become available in early June.
That is not all, though, as Manu J. promised that other OnePlus 7 Pro software features which are not tied to the phone’s hardware will also make their way to the OnePlus 5, 5T, 6, and 6T. In that thread, the company’s official actually listed all the features that you can expect to make their way to older phones.
Fnatic Mode was introduced with the OnePlus 7 Pro, and it’s basically a gaming mode. It boosts the performance when playing multiplayer games online, as it will make sure to keep your device at its peak performance. This mode blocks all distractions, and boosts CPU performance and network speed.
Zen Mode is another main feature that the company introduced recently, and it will help you stay away from your phone for a short period of time. When activated, it will provide you with 20 minutes without distractions, you will still have access to your camera and be able to make that emergency call if necessary, though.
Screen Recorder is the third major feature that the company talked about during the OnePlus 7 Pro’s press conference. OnePlus opted to include a native screen recorder in OxygenOS, and many people will probably be glad to get it on older devices as well.
Other features that the company noted in its forum post are Quick Reply in landscape, DC dimming, and RAM Boost. Quick reply in landscape is kind of self-explanatory, it will allow you to use the Quick Reply feature even when your phone is in landscape orientation, so that you can quickly reply to some messages if you’re watching a video, or doing something else while the phone is in the landscape mode.
DC dimming is essentially an alternative method to adjust screen brightness. DC dimming changes the circuit power of the display, it will reduce screen flickers in low brightness, essentially. OnePlus does warn its users that DC dimming may lead to abnormal colors being displayed in some cases, though.
RAM Boost increases RAM utilization according to your usage. It can predict apps you want to launch and data you want to load, it essentially learns from your usage, and improves your experience with the device, increases load speeds. The company did not give an ETA on either of these features, though, so… we’ll wait and see.
