ASUS has just announced, via Twitter, that the “Zenfone 6” is coming on May 16. The company is using the “DefyOrdinary” tagline for this launch, and the phone(s) will be announced during an event in Valencia, Spain.
Now, the company will probably announce more than one smartphone during this event, but the focus is on its flagship offering, of course. As you can see in an image that ASUS shared, this upcoming flagship will not sport a notch or a display hole, while its bezels will be basically non-existent.
The phone’s earpiece will be a part of the top bezel, while the chin will not be there either based on this render. The volume up, volume down, and power / lock buttons will sit on the right-hand side of the device. The phone’s frame will be made out of metal, and that’s pretty much everything that this image confirms.
This handset actually got certified by the FCC last month, and that certification suggested that it will sport a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back, along with two cameras, and an LED flash placed in-between them.
The Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor will fuel the device, while the phone will include a fullHD+ display, but we still do not know how large will that display be. AnTuTu listing also confirmed that a 6GB RAM variant of the phone will ship with 128GB of storage, though there is a chance we may see more than one variant of the phone being announced.
Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the device, along with ASUS’ custom UI. A 48-megapixel camera will be included on the back of the phone, but we do not have any info regarding the other sensor. The phone will also support 18W fast charging, and will include two SIM card slots.
As you can see, we still do not have all the information when it comes to this phone, but based on its design, it will either ship with a pop-up selfie camera, or it may be a sliding smartphone, we’ll just have to wait and see. We also do not have any info regarding its battery capacity. The ASUS Zenfone 6 will probably be made out of metal and glass, though we’re only guessing here, based on other flagship offerings in the market.
ASUS is expected to announce some mid-range smartphones along with its flagship, at least that was the case in the past couple of years. This phone probably will not be called simply the ASUS Zenfone 6, but it will have some sort of addition to it. Last year, the company’s flagship offering was called the ASUS ZenFone 5Z, so the company may utilize the 6z name this time around, but we’ll see.
In its launch event teaser, ASUS also confirmed that the event will be live streamed, and this teaser was published via ASUS North America Twitter account, which suggests that the phone will make its way to the US at some point, but there’s still no info regarding that, at all, so we’ll just have to wait for the launch event to fill in the gaps.
