Bizarre: ASUS ZenFone 6 Flagship To Have Two Flip-Up Cameras

Roland Quandt has just revealed the design of the ASUS ZenFone 6, one day before the device is scheduled to become official. This information actually proves that some previous leaks were not accurate, like the one that suggested that the ZenFone 6 will be a slider.

According to the provided info, the device will include a rotating / flip-up camera system, a dual rotating camera system, in fact. Those two cameras will serve as rear-facing units, but when called up, they will flip up and serve as front-facing units. This is not the first time we’re seeing such a setup, as some OEMs did release such devices before.

This is the first time that a device with such a camera setup comes with an almost bezel-less display, and the ZenFone 6 will be the most powerful smartphone to offer a flip up / rotating camera system, whatever you want to call it.

As you can see, the phone will include a thin “chin” below the display, but that’s about it, if we disregard the phone’s frame. An earpiece will be placed inside the frame itself, above the display, and the ZenFone 6 will include rounded display corners.

The back side of the device will be curved, and a regular capacitive fingerprint scanner will be placed on the back, right below the phone’s cameras. The phone’s volume up, volume down, and power / lock buttons will be placed on the right, along with an additional button. We’re not sure what that extra button is for, but it will be located high up on the right side of the phone.

Mr. Quandt did not share any spec info with the public, but some info did surface in Taiwan. According to Sogi publication, the device will include 48-megapixel (Sony’s IMX586 sensor) and 13-megapixel (super wide-angle lens) cameras on the back. The camera module will be made out of liquid metal, it seems, which essentially means that it will be both lighter and stronger than your regular camera modules.

The source also confirms that the device’s display will be protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass 6, and that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, as expected. A 5,000mAh battery will be included in the package, while you will recharge that battery using Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ fast charging tech.

The device will be available in Black and Silver color options, and that is pretty much all the spec info that we have at the moment. We’re not sure how large will the phone’s display be, but it’s safe to safe that it will be larger than 6 inches. We’re also not sure whether ASUS plans to include a fullHD+ or a QHD+ display here, but chances are we’ll see a fullHD+ AMOLED panel. The phone will almost certainly be made out of metal and glass, based on what we’ve seen in the provided renders.

The ASUS ZenFone 6 will ship with Android 9 Pie, almost certainly, with ASUS’ custom skin on top of it. The device will become official tomorrow, during the company’s official press conference, and ASUS is expected to launch more than one phone during that event. We’re expecting to see several ZenFone 6 variants being announced, as that was the case in the previous years.
