The OnePlus 7 Pro has gestures built-in, but these are not on by default. They are also somewhat hidden in the settings, making it a bit tougher to find them and turn them on. But don’t fret, we’ll walk you through how to turn them on, and which gestures you should be using.
Which Gestures Should You Use?
OnePlus has two sets of gestures included on the OnePlus 7 Pro. There’s Google’s own gestures, that it debuted with Android Pie last year. This is the second option on the list, below the traditional three buttons. Then there is OnePlus’ own gestures which are below that, as the third option. Tapping on each one, will show you how they work at the bottom of the screen. OnePlus’ gestures are going to be the best if you are looking to get as much screen real-estate as possible.
You can of course, just stick with the same old three-button style. Those buttons can be flipped too, so that the back button is on the left or the right. But OnePlus does not allow any customization for those buttons – which is a bit surprising.
How To Turn On Gestures On OnePlus 7 Pro
You’ll start by opening the Settings app, from the app drawer, home screen or the gear icon in the notifications pull down.
Next, navigate to “Buttons & Gestures”. It’ll be about halfway down the screen, below the “Sound & Vibration” section.
Now, tap on “Navigation bar & Gestures”. Which is the second option going down.
From here, you’re going to see the three options that we spoke about above. The first option is the traditional three-button layout. With the second being Google’s gestures with the pill in the middle. And the last option is OnePlus’ gestures, which give you more screen real estate.
If you want a full-screen experience, the third option is going to be the one to choose. As you select each option, it will show you how it works in the “Introduction” section at the bottom of the screen.
Wrap Up
That’s all there is to it. Gestures seem to be all the rage these days, with most OEMs also building out their own gestures for their smartphones. It is good that OnePlus did opt to keep its gestures along with Google’s, so that users can choose between the one that they prefer. That’s what OnePlus is all about, though. Giving users the choice to do things the way that they want to do it.
While OnePlus gestures may not be the best, they are pretty fluid and work well. Much better than Google’s own gestures – which kinda defeat the purpose of gestures, since you still have the bar at the bottom for the pill and the back button. Unlike Pixel devices, you do have the option of going back to the three-button navigation, which might be easier for most people, since it’s something that they already know and have been using for many years.
But if you are looking for something new, give gestures a try.
