The OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus’ newest flagship, was announced quite recently, and iFixit has just released its teardown guide for the device. The company shared this teardown in the form of a video which has a duration of almost four minutes, and in addition to that, it also ranked the phone on its repairability scale.
The OnePlus 7 Pro did not do exceptionally well in this regard, as it managed to get only 4 out of 10 as far as repairability is concerned, 10 being the easiest to repair. This was to be expected, though, as the phone includes a motorized selfie camera, and a curved display, on top of everything else.
iFixit does not that the phone’s battery is fairly easy to replace, so if that’s something you’re worried about, don’t be. The phone’s backplate is not the easiest to remove, as the adhesive is quite strong, but the procedure is the same as on other metal + glass phones. You’ll need a heat gun, and some additional tools to soften the adhesive and cut through it.
Once you do that, the battery is fairly accessible, it’s only lightly adhered and comes with a pull tab, which makes it fairly easy to remove. iFixit also notes that many components inside the phone are modular, and can be individually replaced.
Those are the positives that were listed by the company. As far as negatives are concerned, well… there are a few. iFixit notes that replacing the OnePlus 7 Pro’s display is not an easy task. You have to completely disassemble the phone in order to swap out the display.
It is also noted that the phone’s motorized selfie camera may be cool and everything, but the added mechanical element makes it more likely to wear out and more complicated to replace if that happens.
iFixit also said that the rear panel is firmly glued in place, as mentioned earlier, it’s not exactly easy to remove, as it is on some other phones. It is doable, though, with the right tools, and a bit of patience, you can do it.
It is always recommended that you don’t do anything alone if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing, of course. If there are any issues with the phone, you should contact your point of purchase, and let them deal with it.
If you’d like to check out the whole teardown procedure that iFixit conducted, the company’s video is embedded down below. You will also get detailed instructions on how to do everything, as per usual.
The OnePlus 7 Pro was announced alongside its sibling, the OnePlus 7, and that phone did not appear on iFixit just yet, but we presume that its build is quite similar to the one of the OnePlus 6T. The two phones offer the same design, even though the OnePlus 7 does include stereo speakers, UFS 3.0 flash storage, and there are some other differences on the inside… but still, the build should be quite similar. The OnePlus 7 Pro is already available for purchase, while the OnePlus 7 will go on sale at the beginning of June.
