[UPDATED] New Redmi Flagships To Arrive With Unexpected Names: Rumor

UPDATE: The company confirmed “Redmi K20” name.

Names of Redmi’s upcoming flagships have been revealed, along with some additional info. This information comes from Ishan Agarwal, through MySmartPrice. The source has confirmed that the company is planning to announce two variants of its new flagship device, the Redmi K20, and K20 Pro.

These are rather odd naming options by Redmi, as the rumored “Redmi X” name would be a far more logical choice. Redmi’s CEO did confirm quite recently that the Redmi X will not be the name of the company’s flagship, though. We’re still not sure what the “K” is supposed to represent, it’s even possible that there’s no logic behind it, Redmi will hopefully share more info during the launch event.

The number “20” that the company included is also a mystery, why 20 if these are Redmi’s very first flagships? That’s another question that we don’t have an answer just yet. In any case, the source has confirmed that both the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro will arrive in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants.

The Redmi K20’s 6GB RAM model will be available in 64GB and 128GB storage flavors, while the 8GB RAM option will ship with 256GB of storage. The Redmi K20 Pro’s 6GB RAM options will include 64GB and 128GB of storage, while the 8GB RAM option will ship with 128GB and 256GB of storage.

Mr. Agarwal also said that the Redmi K20 series will arrive in Carbon Fiber Black, Glacier Blue, and Flame Red color variants. He did not mention either of the two phones specifically, so we presume that both phones will ship in these color variants. It is still unclear when will these two phones arrive, they were rumored to launch today, on May 13, but it seems like that will not happen.

If leaks are to be believed, the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro will sport really thin bezels, and a pop-up camera. The phone was rumored to include a display camera hole, and but it seems like that will not be the case, at least based on a recent teaser that popped up. This is rather odd, though, as the company’s CEO suggested that a pop-up camera will not be included… we’ll just have to wait and see.

The two devices will sport a thin “chin” below the display, and at least one of them will ship with the Snapdragon 855. It is possible that the Redmi K20 may ship with a mid-range processor, and the K20 Pro to arrive with the Snapdragon 855, but we’re only guessing at this point.

Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the two phones, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 skin on top of it. The two phones are expected to sport rather large batteries, and fullHD+ AMOLED displays. Fast charging will be a part of the package as well, while we’re not sure if Redmi plans to include wireless charging or not.

Redmi is expected to announce the launch date for these two phones soon, and the two devices will likely become official before the end of the month. The Redmi K20 Pro is expected to cost less than the Xiaomi Mi 9, but we’ll see what will happen.
