Samsung’s Galaxy Note10 is the next major smartphone slated to release this year. And the rumor mill is already working overtime to get consumers excited for Samsung’s next big thing.
The latest rumor comes out of Android Police, who is citing a source familiar with the matter. That source also said that Samsung is planning multiple Galaxy Note10 models. Specifically that there will be two sizes – a larger and a smaller version. Though the specific screen sizes were not mentioned. This follows other reports we’ve seen recently, that Samsung was planning to do multiple sizes of the Galaxy Note10, following the Galaxy S line.
With smartphones getting so large, and the Galaxy S10+ already being about the same size as the Galaxy Note9, this makes sense for Samsung. Offering customers a smaller one that might be between the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ screen size, and then a larger one that’s closer to 7-inches. This way it’s able to have something for everyone.
The other big rumor in this report indicates that Samsung may be getting rid of the headphone jack, starting with the Galaxy Note10. That would be a big more for Samsung. As it has routinely thrown punches at its competitors for removing the headphone jack. And it is one of the only smartphone makers that is keeping the headphone jack, so far. That would leave just LG, unless it decides to drop it with the V60 ThinQ later this year.
Samsung is also rumored to be dropping physical buttons for power and volume. This is a rumor trend we’ve seen with a few different smartphones that are coming out later this year. There have been rumors that Google would also ditch physical buttons on the Pixel 4. What is likely here, is that Samsung would still have buttons, but they wouldn’t actually move. They would be more of a capacitive button, like the ones that we used to have on smartphones for home, back and recents.
Removing the physical buttons is actually something that HTC did last year. It was met with a lot of backlash, mostly because they didn’t really work at first but a software update fixed that. This just shows that HTC, while thinking out of the box, was also ahead of its competitors.
Samsung does typically do most of its bigger changes with the Galaxy Note series of smartphones. While the Galaxy S will get a few more smaller ones. Samsung does this because the Galaxy S line is the line for everyone. If you need a new phone, you get a Galaxy S10. But the Galaxy Note line is a bit more high-end and niche, and that allows Samsung to be able to test the waters with some changes. The report does say that Samsung might not remove the headphone jack on the Galaxy S11 next year, though.
If history is going to repeat itself, Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy Note10 in early to mid-August. It is typically a couple of weeks ahead of IFA, so that Samsung is able to get its phone into stores before the iPhone – and ahead of the competitors that will be announced at IFA in Berlin.
